Longtime guitarist Adam Carroll has left Los Angeles thrashers WARBRINGER. The band enlisted friend and talented young guitarist Andrew Bennett for the upcoming North American tour with ICED EARTH, with the hope that he may become a permanent member of the group.

Commented Carroll: “To all fans and friends, I, Adam Carroll, have officially quit WARBRINGER. I have financial issues at home that have to be addressed sooner than later. I hope you all can understand and respect my decision. It’s been some of the best years of my life and I appreciate all the support you the fans have given us and continue to give. I will forever be part of the WARBRINGER family. Many thanks and until I see the rest of you again, keep the metal alive.”

The band enlisted friend and talented, young guitarist Andrew Bennett for the purpose of filling in live for this tour with the hope that he may become a permanent member of the group as he continues his audition process where it matters most– on the stage and in the van.

Added Bennett, “Last month I received a message from the guys, which basically stated that Adam was requesting to step out. As a result, they were searching for a possible replacement who could learn the material in time for the upcoming ICED EARTH and SYMPHONY X tour. I jumped at the opportunity and started learning some tracks. Around the beginning of this month I went down and jammed with the guys and the rest is history.

“I am eternally grateful to my friends in WARBRINGER for giving me the opportunity to play with them and I am very excited about what the future may hold. But one thing that I would like to make clear is that I don’t view myself as Adam’s replacement, as much as I view myself as filling the position instead of him. Adam’s work with the band and time with them is not something that can be erased and I would just like to make it clear that I respect him greatly. He has left big shoes to fill and I have a lot of work ahead of me if I am going to honor his legacy with the band.

“I’m looking forward to interacting with, and playing for, the fans on the road! It’s time to shred!”

WARBRINGER’s third album, “Worlds Torn Asunder”, sold around 2,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD landed at position No. 11 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

WARBRINGER’s sophomore CD, “Waking Into Nightmares”, also opened with around 2,000 units back in May 2009 to debut at No. 14 on the Heatseekers chart.

“Worlds Torn Asunder” was produced and mixed by Steve Evetts (SUICIDE SILENCE, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SYMPHONY X), and features artwork by Dan Seagrave, who designed WARBRINGER’s previous album cover (in addition to art for bands such as ENTOMBED, SUFFOCATION and MORBID ANGEL).

The concept of METAL ASYLUM was inspired by two of Rivera’s previous endeavors; the first tribute band the singer ever created entitled PROJECT RIVERA, which was a tribute to classic ’80s metal, in addition to a more recent specialty show of his known as “James Rivera, A Tribute To His Metal History”. Audiences can expect to witness Rivera and company’s renditions of the SCORPIONS, IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, MERCYFUL FATE, METAL CHURCH, plus many others! Currently three regional Texas shows are scheduled to take place early this year in San Antonio, College Station and Houston. James Rivera’s METAL ASYLUM promises to deliver a pulse-pounding, headbanging, horns in the air experience for every metalhead!

ARCH/MATHEOS — the new progressive rock band featuring FATES WARNING/OSI guitarist Jim Matheos and former FATES WARNING singer John Arch — will play its only U.S. show on May 5 at the Webster Theater in Hartford, Connecticut.

ARCH/MATHEOS last year filmed a video for the song “Midnight Serenade” with director David Brodsky of MyGoodEye (DEVIN TOWNSEND, HELMET, IN THIS MOMENT). The track comes off the group’s debut album, “Sympathetic Resonance”, which sold around 1,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at No. 13 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Sympathetic Resonance” entered the official chart in Germany at No. 27, in Austria at No. 67, and in Switzerland at No. 78.

The cover art for “Sympathetic Resonance” was fashioned using an image created by light painting photographer Dennis Calvert, who has described light painting as “The ability to see in four dimensions, time traveling, and creating fantasy using only what we base all reality on, light.”

Released on September 13, 2011 via Metal Blade Records, “Sympathetic Resonance” features the following track listing:

01. Neurotically Wired
02. Midnight Serenade
03. Stained Glass Sky
04. On the Fence
05. Any Given Day (Strangers Like Me)
06. Incense and Myrrh

ARCH/MATHEOS features an all-star lineup, including the talents of Joey Vera (ARMORED SAINT, ANTHRAX, FATES WARNING, SEVEN WITCHES) on bass, Bobby Jarzombek (HALFORD, FATES WARNING, SEBASTIAN BACH, RIOT) on drums, and Frank Aresti (FATES WARNING) on additional lead guitar.

Comments Matheos: “I think John and I work really well together. There’s a lot of mutual respect and trust in what we do. But we’re also both very critical of ourselves, and each other. This can make for a long and sometimes tedious process. But ultimately it’s one I enjoy because I think it brings out the best in both of us.”

ARCH/MATHEOS recording lineup:

* John Arch (FATES WARNING) – Vocals
* Jim Matheos (FATES WARNING, OSI) – Guitar
* Joey Vera (ARMORED SAINT, ANTHRAX, FATES WARNING, SEVEN WITCHES) – Bass
* Bobby Jarzombek (HALFORD, FATES WARNING, SEBASTIAN BACH, RIOT) – Drums
* Frank Aresti (FATES WARNING) – Additional Lead Guitar

You can now watch the chat below.

When asked about what is going on with IRON MAIDEN at the moment, Nicko replied, “Well, we’re taking some time off. And we’re gonna go back out on tour sometime this year. We’re not sure yet when. It’s in the words of a very famous British singer from the Second World War called Vera Lynn. And she had a song and it went something like, ‘We’ll meet again. Don’t know where. Don’t know when.’ So that’s in the line of Vera Lynn. We’re doing a Vera Lynn. We don’t know where, we don’t know when. . . [But] IRON MAIDEN is touring sometime this year, yeah. I don’t think [it will be a world tour this time]. Next year, maybe. But this year, it’s just gonna be a little tour — short run.”

EMI has set a March 26 release date for “En Vivo!”, the new concert Blu-Ray, two-DVD set and double soundtrack album from legendary British metallers IRON MAIDEN.

“En Vivo!” was filmed on April 10, 2011 in front of over 50,000 ecstatic fans at the Estadio Nacional, Santiago during the “Round The World In 66 Days” leg of “The Final Frontier World Tour”, and captures a magnificent performance by the band, ardently embraced by the legendary Latino passion and energy of their Chilean fans. With spectacular stage backdrops, dynamic musicianship and a literally jaw-dropping appearance by Eddie, this live show encapsulates to perfection the heart and soul of IRON MAIDEN 2011.

In addition to the Blu-Ray, the two-DVD will initially be available as a limited-edition double DVD in collectors’ steel book case and double vinyl picture disc. As well as a traditional two-CD soundtrack album, “En Vivo!” will be available as a digital download CD soundtrack album and digital download video.

As previously reported, “Resolution” is likely to sell between 50,000 and 55,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on January 24 via Epic.

LAMB OF GOD’s previous CD, “Wrath”, opened with around 68,000 units back in March 2009 to land at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 chart. This figure was roughly in line with the first-week tally registered by 2006’s “Sacrament”, which shifted around 63,000 units to enter the chart at No. 8. It also represented almost double the amount of records sold by its predecessor, “Ashes Of The Wake”, which premiered with 35,000 copies in September 2004.

“Resolution” was released internationally through Roadrunner Records. The CD was recorded at various studios in Virginia and New York with producer Josh Wilbur, who worked on the band’s last effort, 2009’s “Wrath”.

“Resolution” track listing:

01. Straight For The Sun
02. Desolation
A mass will be held on Wednesday, February 1 at 12 p.m. at St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church. A processional will follow to Holy Cross Cemetery for interment.

A guestbook can be found at this location.

Reale died Wednesday (January 25) in a San Antonio hospital due to complications of Crohn’s disease — an ailment he had battled for most of his life. He was 56 years old.

Reale had reportedly been in a coma for the past two weeks after suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage on January 11.

Mark is survived by his father, Anthony Reale, and was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Reale.

Mark spent most of his life working and performing while enduring almost constant pain and the side effects of treatment for Crohn’s disease. He was in Texas bravely attempting to practice for the shows, but was felled by a severe onset of Crohn’s symptoms, leaving him in the Intensive Care Unit at an undisclosed facility. Mark was struggling with these symptoms throughout the production of RIOT’s new album, “Immortal Soul”, and guitarist Mike Flyntz recorded a major portion of the guitars on the LP with Mark’s creative direction while Reale was unable to perform.

Mark Reale, the founding guitarist of the legendary metal band RIOT, passed away earlier today (Wednesday, January 25) in a San Antonio hospital due to complications of Crohn’s disease — an ailment he has battled for most of his life. He was 56 years old.

Reale had reportedly been in a coma for the past two weeks after suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage on January 11.

RIOT said in a statement: “To friends and fans of Mark Reale and RIOT, we are deeply saddened to confirm that Mark has lost his battle with a lifelong illness. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated by Mark’s family, friends, and bandmates at this difficult time.”

Upon learning of Mark’s passing, Brian Slagel, founder and CEO of Metal Blade Records, said, “I was a huge fan of RIOT’s ‘Fire Down Under’ album and got to interview them for my fanzine. Great guys and I was lucky enough to finally reissue ‘Fire Down Under’ and the other early RIOT albums on Metal Blade. We signed the band for their second run, so to speak, and put out some records in the ’90s that did well, especially in Europe and Japan. It was a pleasure working with them and Mark was always a kind soul — an AMAZING player who really has a big time place in the history of metal. One of the really nice guys who put out some incredible stuff.”

Mark is survived by his father, Anthony Reale, and was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Reale.

RIOT played two shows without Reale last week — on January 18 at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City and on January 20 at Montage Music Hall in Rochester, New York — and is currently taking part in 70,000 Tons Of Metal, a four-day all-heavy metal cruise which set sail on Monday, January 23 aboard the Royal Caribbean Majesty Of The Seas from Miami, Florida.

RIOT’s original singer Guy Speranza died on November 8, 2003 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 47 years old. Often regarded as the best RIOT vocalist, he sang on the group’s first three full-length albums — “Rock City” (1977), “Narita” (1979) and “Fire Down Under” (1981) — before being replaced by Rhett Forrester. Forrester himself left in the mid-’80s to pursue a solo career, only to be murdered on January 22, 1994 in Atlanta.

Singer Mike Tirelli, who toured with RIOT after Mike DiMeo officially left the band in 2007, was diagnosed with stomach cancer in the fall of 2008 and underwent treatment for this life-threatening illness. All the treatments were reportedly a huge success in eradicating the disease.

Former EMPEROR frontman Ihsahn (real name: Vegard Sverre Tveitan) will make a guest appearance on the sophomore solo album from ex-NEVERMORE guitarist Jeff Loomis. The CD, which is being produced by Aaron Smith (7 HORNS 7 EYES), is scheduled for release later in the year via Century Media Records.

Commented Ihsahn: “I was both surprised and honored when Jeff asked me to sing on one of the songs for his upcoming album. He sent me a killer track, so it was easy to get inspiration for both words and vocal ideas, and I think it came out really well.

“Jeff is an amazing musician and I’m really looking forward to hearing the final album. Also, in the collaborative spirit, I got him to lay down a solo for my own new album.”

Added Loomis: “I know most of you are aware that Christine Rhoades is doing some vocals on my album. At first I thought she’d be the only guest singer on the record, but then this one song started coming together, it’s pretty brutal.

“I’ve always wanted to do really, really heavy music and after hearing this, both Aaron and myself thought we needed some crazy, sick singer on it. We just sat around tossing names out for a bit, nothing really was sticking and then Aaron says, ‘I got it…Ihsahn’ and it was one of those moments where you knew that was the answer all along, it just hadn’t been unlocked in your mind yet.

“Anyway, a few short emails back and forth and we had his vocal track in. It came out amazing. I can’t wait for you to hear it.

“Ihsahn, thanks again, it’s an honor to have you on my record.”

Other musicians who have recorded guest appearances on Loomis’ new solo album include fellow axemen Marty Friedman (ex-MEGADETH), Tony Macalpine and Chris Poland (ex-MEGADETH).

Turunen’s new project, HARUS, last month released a CD/DVD/Blu-ray, entitled “In Concert – Live At Sibelius Hall”.

The HARUS live album/DVD was made available worldwide by earMUSIC in collaboration with Edel’s classic music division Berlin Classics. This joint venture from two music labels apparently far away from each other would probably sound bizarre at first sight (a label operating in alternative and metal music with one representing traditional classical music artists). The reason lies beneath the many sides of Tarja Turunen’s music.

The first output of HARUS features traditional and emotional music from Finland presented together with more international repertoire.

Tarja’s sophomore solo album, “What Lies Beneath”, sold around 1,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 24 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“What Lies Beneath” was released in North America on September 14, 2010 via The End Records.

Swedish hard rockers EUROPE have set “Bag Of Bones” as the title of their ninth studio album, tentatively due in April. The CD is being produced by Kevin Shirley, who has previously worked with IRON MAIDEN, JOE BONAMASSA, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, BLACK STONE CHERRY and JOURNEY, among others.

Regarding the new CD title, EUROPE drummer Ian Haugland said, “It’s not [called 'Bag Of Bones'] because we all have lost tons of weight or found a new interest in archeology or dogs… It’s just because it sounds fuckin’ cool!”

In a July 2011 press release, EUROPE singer Joey Tempest stated about the bands’ new CD, “We still feel we have one hell of a rock record to make. Kevin’s the man for the job. We love his work with BONAMASSA, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, and BLACK STONE CHERRY. He’s the real deal. We’re ready to do some serious damage.”

Last year, EUROPE met up with Shirley in Stockholm to discuss the direction of the next album. Based on reactions from the fans and media, EUROPE’s 2009 album, “Last Look At Eden”, proved to be the band’s most important record since “The Final Countdown”. “I’ve been a big fan of EUROPE’s work for many years,” said Shirley. “The band is influential and highly underrated. I can’t wait to make the upcoming album their most explosive to date.”

The new material suggests a more straightforward rock approach evident in “Doghouse” — a new song EUROPE performed on their most recent U.K. tour (see video below). The song is also featured on EUROPE’s “Europe: Live at Shepherd’s Bush” DVD, released in August 2011 via earMUSIC CDs and DVDs.

earMUSIC last year released a limited deluxe book with pictures by Denis O’Regan. “Live Look At Eden” features exclusive live audio and the stunning performance at 2010’s iTunes Festival in London.
