Difference! Uniqueness! Feeling! Lyricism! And above all: Identity! Only a few of the things that this new Greek act contains and comes with its first release, after years of trying, to unbalance the calmness in the sea of emotions. Here we have to deal with music that comes from the heart and has as a final destination the most sensitive areas to people’s hearts and minds. Seven songs (plus the great instrumental ”Unidentified Sights which should be a little more longer, as I like it very much) and 55 minutes later, things will come clear to you and many thoughts will come round your mind.
First of all, most of the lyrics are about personal relationships between people. Matters of everyday life concern the members of the band and this reflects on their music which shouldn’t be treated naively as it is a demanding release. Just by mentioning the influences of the band you could easily get an idea, but at first it’s not real necessary, for it is the technique and musicianship they have above all that enclose the best final outcome you’re going to get.
Of course, everybody wants to know what he’s going to deal with. So, imagine the glory days of Opeth (until ”Damnation” that is) haunting the album with eerie rhythms constantly changing to brutal outbursts, Pain of Salvation’s emotional moments getting combined with some Psychotic Waltz crazy riffs here and there, and of course the mighty long gone Death. Especially Chuck Schuldiner would be proud, listening to Cons Marg ressurecting his spirit in songs like ”Freak In Motion” or in parts of ”Crossed We Are”. Amazing production by ex Carnal Forge vocalist and current Scar Symmetry guitarist Jonas Kjellgren.
He managed to give a great and ideal sound to the album, with the guitars having a sound that is ideal for each song, melodic, shredding, vast and clean depending the situation. The mature rhythm section accompanies some well hidden keyboards, with the bass being the beating heart and the drums the acres of what would be a special person if the band was a simple man. Not to forget, we must mention the artwork, which you could find both bitter and beautiful, but still suitable to the album’s feeling. It is amazing how some bands tend to have great ideas apart from music, meaning that they have dived deep inside in what they do.
As far as I am concerned, this one is for people who love music and live it passionately. They will discover one of their new favorite bands, with such numerous things to offer that they will keep on repeating each listening from the beginning. ”Coma” is one of the best songs I have listened to my whole lifetime, showing that the best things in life are the simple ones, and as the remarkable ”Echoing Lullaby” sets the stage for the band’s departure from the speakers, with its rainy parts in the end, suddenly you feel that there is a light in the end of the tunnel and the blackness you thought was around you, was just a paler shade of gray, which could turn into white someday. Congratulations!
