Well every time that a band like StorrmBringer comes to my attention I get even more excited about underground because only there someone is able to discover such treasures. Indeed Storrmbringer IS a Metal treasure.
I am not going to use any type of clichés such us “True”, “Cult”, “Obscure” to describe their musical and general background, this will do no justice to the band at all… and you know very well that during almost a decade the main target of Metalpaths is to present every single band the way it deserved to be presented to the people. So I would better use the words inspired, passionate and powerful referring to the EPIC METAL that StorrmBringer from Volos (Greece), deliver in their three track Promo CD which is only a teaser of what is about to follow: an eight track full length album soon to be out by Eat Metal Records.
The ultimate trademark of the band is of course their singer’s –Tryfonas- high pitched vocals. He got loads and loads of passion and power and he sings this special old school Metal way. His voice is crystal clear and characteristic, I am sure that if this guy focus on even more voice practicing and does a little study to discover those little secrets of singing then he would do a brilliant gift to the Greek Metal scene: his wonderful voice completed and ready for even more screams and passionate performances like the one he does on the mighty and superior “Return Of The Avenger” anthem. Well at the end of the day I still worship this type of vocals –especially in StorrmBringer- and I still find myself stuck on the mentioned track.
Musically we would hear nothing more and nothing less than pure Epic Metal. Inspired by bands like Manowar when it is still in mid tempo and Sacred Steel in the faster parts of the songs. Riffs are enforced by ultra melodic lead guitar themes and by a hammering rhythm section. I have already pointed the bands hymn –Return Of The Avenger-, but the other tracks –Heathen Cry, Stormbringer- are in the same Epic mode, able to make your head finally bang.
I am so happy and enthusiastic noticing new bands in average age of 25 playing such type of music. This fact gives to our favorite music more credits and the possibility to be heard by younger people who would check new bands like StorrmBringer.
I will have to wait for the full length to write even more about those newcomers that make me smile with satisfaction and feel proud and happy for the fact that I am still a worshiper of Steel!
LONG LIVE STORRMBRINGER!
