I was always a fanatic supporter of old school and traditional metal. However, in the early 00’s I gave nu-metal a chance. Keeping an open mind I embraced several nu-metal bands because I felt that they had something to offer, taking my favourite music a step further and adding a whole new perspective in the metal scene. Linkin Park was one of the bands that directly grabbed my attention and gained my appreciation. I did not particularly like their habit to release a brand new studio album every 3 or 4 years, but I was most certainly anticipating with enthusiasm their next hit. This is exactly how things happened with their new release.

Filled with excitement I got ‘Minutes to Midnight’ and even from the title I was sure that this would be the pinnacle of their musical adventure. How wrong was I? What a huge disappointment! This is not nu-metal! In fact this is not metal whatsoever. This album should be found under any other music category except metal. Or is this new nu-metal? I don’t know anymore. The transformation of Linkin Park from a leading nu-metal band into an Emo/Pop group does not excite me at all. It actually repels me, it makes me feel guilty that I spent time listening to it. I totally feel that I have betrayed my music philosophy, or should I say, I feel betrayed by Linkin Park? I am not going to analyse any of the content of this record. Perhaps ‘What I’ve Done’ is a song worth listening to, but nothing really special.
