Just right after Nashville Pussy’s record, I have the chance to review another interesting piece of work from the hard rock genre. This time it is about the newest Chrome Division’s record, ‘Infernal Rock Eternal’. Chrome Division comes from Oslo and besides the cold Norwegian weather, the band is all about party-rock, booze and going crazy. From the very beginning of their career, the band released three records under Nuclear Blast and another one this year, totally becoming a front-field name for the specific record label.

Chrome Division mixes up heavy metal, with hard rock. For some people, the band may sound sometimes like Enforcer with hard rock vocals or Airborne, however, a fusion of all those different kinds of band should be avoided. The band is totally influenced by bands like Motorhead or Saxon, however they try not to sound too metal or too rock only. ‘ The Absinthe Voyage’ is one of the songs where the band performs faster and heavier, reminding me of Enforcer. On the other hand, there are songs like ‘She’s Hot Tonight’, which make me associate Chrome Division with 90’s Guns and Roses for example. They are alive, rocking and sharp.

The band uses a lot of acoustic parts, such us the opening song ‘Good Morning Riot’, ‘Lady of Perpetual Sorrow’ and ‘On the Run Again’. ‘Lady of Perpetual Sorrow’ is my favorite moment from the record. The song begins with acoustic guitars and a beautiful guitar solo. Then, the song progressives to strong electric parts along with emotional and powerful vocals. Most of the songs are based on the groove, the hard rock guitars and the solos. The band doesn’t perform always fast, but there are times when the pace slows down and the music goes deeper, with great drum parts and dizzy vocal lines, as in ‘The Moonshine Years’. Moreover, there is another notable song to mention, ‘Ol’, because it is a totally thrash one. The whole song is an -Anthrax meeting rock and melody- one.

Guitars are always the major song structure and the vocal lines and the rhythm section orbit around them. There are plenty of solos to get stuck into (for all you guitar lovers). In ‘Endless Nights’ the band uses talkbox and besides the fact that I dislike the sound it creates along with the guitar, I found the song a strong one. The record comes with a bonus song as well; ‘Dirty Dog’. The song in my opinion could be a regular one, it is just spectacular. ‘Infernal Rock Eternal’ is a hard rock record, a great one, but doesn’t exceed the expectations. The songs are well-made, with a great sound, but they do not differ one from another. Party songs, just to make your mood go rocking.

The record is enjoyable, but not that innovative. It is a record to headbang and listen to while drinking your beer. Chrome Division made another good disc, keeping warm their fans with lovely melodies.
