When it comes to post black metal bands France is really make it or… make it actually! Bands like ALCEST, CELESTE and DELUGE are undeniable proof that France is on the top tier when it comes to cultivating this scene. I’ve never heard a group that is remotely mediocre when it comes to post metal/black metal that originates from there. THE GREAT OLD ONES belong to that special generation of artists and earlier this year unleashed their 3rd album “EOD: A Tale Of Dark Legacy

“This danse macabre is a gift granted from the dark gods of H.P. Lovecraft’s legacy in the form of a truly amazing release”

A macabre construct of dread and an ode to H. P. Lovecraft’s work, “A Tale Of Dark Legacy” takes the listener for a walk to the darkest corners of the human mind, where the malevolent creatures that linger there dance in satisfaction, as the sinister side of the conscience takes over and uncontrollably dives into a spiral of emotional shift. A vessel of melodies and rhythms that wanders you far from the light and into an unsettling warmth that has never felt colder. Τhe ingredients that compile this cosmic concert of madness is a harmonic mixture of tremolo picked guitar melodies, accompanied with wittily crafted drum (blast) beats, vocals that emanate despair and disgust, and a full bass that is the foundation of this monument to the absence of sanity. The lyrics are H. P. Lovecraft’s stories, there is nothing more you need to know. The music and the lyrics hold each other’s hand in perfect unity.

The mix is not what you’d say clear but that’s for the better, because the desperation this album is all about cannot be imprinted in one’s ears in any other way than what this album sounds. The mix and mastering is done by Mobo in Conkrete Studio, France.

This danse macabre is a gift granted from the dark gods of H.P. Lovecraft’s legacy in the form of a truly amazing release. A blind fall into an oblivious abyss, where darkness is the only thing you’ll know, and the only thing you’ll need. This album truly feels like a tale, “A Tale Of Dark Legacy“.
