Following the startling success of 2005`s ”Buried in the front yard”, Rumpelstiltskin Grinder came back to reveal us their new second album called ”Living for Death, Destroying the Rest” , which is gonna give us a full tour to what these Americans from Pennsylvania mean when they are talking about an extreme mixture of thrash and sometimes hardcore sound.
The album is full of energy, speed and something that I call extreme thrash pulse. It introduce us itself with ”nothing defeats the skull” which is one of the albums strongest cards and prepares you for what its coming next. The old school thrash ingredients are scattered all over, and the hardcore breaks give the oppurtunity to the band to make a complete turn from the speedy thrash metal riffs to a natural born killer hardcore situation.
As we continue, Scientists get sent back to the 17th century to evangelize for Satan in “Brainwasher C. 1655″. Matt moore and shawn riley share the microphone so there is an ongoing rotation in the vocals that won’t let you calm. The album rolls naturally in the same motive until ”traitors blood” shakes the ground and my speakers equally, its the second strong card of this record and its changing a little bit the mood to a more evil path.
As the listening continues we will find The three-part “Dethroning the Tyrant” and with this concept closing the album , I have to say that the philly foursome recorded very good material, full of frenzy rocket rythms, razor sharped riffs and humor that let you with a very nostalgic taste. and this nostalgia comes from the enjoyable production of Dan O`Hare, that will remind you many retro thrash sounded bands.
However i have to admit that Rumpelstiltskin Grinder its not the new hope of metal. Neither they are the new kings of thrash metal. But they habe something meaningful to say. Thrash is not dead and it never be dead if bands like Rumpelstiltskin Grinder come around. So if anyone of you like this sound I have to warn you, ”Beware The Thrash Brigade”!.
