BEHEMOTH recently rehearsed for the first time since Adam “Nergal” Darski, was diagnosed with leukemia last August.

Nergal, who underwent a bone marrow transplant procedure in December, said, “Sooo, first rehearsals after the transplant are under our belts! I didn’t want to get overexcited at first, just wanted to see how things would go, but I have to tell you… the second rehearsal we fuckin’ nailed ‘Ov Fire And The Void’, ‘Lucifer’, ‘Conquer All’ and ‘Antichristian Phenomenon’ flawlessly! One of us even asked, ‘Did we really take a year off from each other?’ Ha ha… it was good times in great company! But the biggest surprise were the songs we NEVER played live ever and planning to do on the upcoming ‘Phoenix Rising Tour’. I won’t reveal any names yet, let it be a mystery ’till we hit the stage, all right?” He added, “In other news, I started jamming out some NEW shit too… [It's] too early to give any further comments, but it sounds VERY disturbing and eerie. Can’t fuckin wait to unleash those ideas to my friends…”

Check out photos from the rehearsal sessions below.

In a recent interview with Metal Sucks, Nergal stated about BEHEMOTH’s upcoming touring activities, “The October shows [in Poland] are just to get warmed up. Then we might do some shows in Australia and Asia — that’s the plan. Then the priority for early 2012 is a European tour, then shortly after that, a U.S. tour. This is our top priority for the next year and we’re going to fucking do it!”

He added, “Just wait and see us on the stage. You’ll see. I’m not going to reveal anything about it, but we … It’s not gonna just be BEHEMOTH. It’s not like time stood still for us, like we were frozen in time and are just going to appear with the same entourage and in the same outfits. No. We’re going to come back, we want to remind people of our existence obviously, but we want to make a fucking impact, an impression. We want to show them that, hey, we are still fucking evolving. We’re not just hoping that you’ll come to see us because I was sick. Fuck that. I’ll be better soon and we’re going to deliver!”

Speaking to Revolver magazine in April, Nergal said, “We just decided to play some so-called comeback shows in Poland just to warm up and see how we feel, just to be onstage again together. And I really hope that it’s going to turn out great and that it’s going to cause other tours and stuff. We have plans until the summer of next year. We already have some cool offers. We’re talking to our agents. There’s some really, really cool ideas. I don’t want to reveal anything yet, but once we’re done with October shows, and we feel good about it, and there’s chemistry onstage, we definitely want to continue the ‘Evangelion’ touring cycle. There’s still some markets we didn’t even touch. We’ve done over 100 shows so far to ‘Evangelion’. We’re going to do another 100 at least, and then we can focus on the next record.

“To be honest, we can’t wait to hit the stage again. I’m so fucking anxious. I’m so excited, so psyched about it. I have dreams about coming back onstage. I dream about BEHEMOTH shows. It’s insane, I know, but I can’t tell you how much it’s a relief to the band and how much it means to us.”

“Evangelion”, the new album from Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH, has been certified gold in the band’s home country for sales in excess of 15,000 copies.

Commented guitarist/vocalist Adam “Nergal” Darski: “Wow… big fuckin’ WOW! What else can I say? This is HUGE day for BEHEMOTH. From the bottom of our hearts, we’d like thank all the people who bought the record and made it happen! Also massive thanks go to Mystic Productions in Poland for giving us so much support and strength! You are more than awesome!

“Now we are stuck somewhere in Austrian mountains, the tour is doing great even though most of us are battling with the flu. I’m on antibiotics and steroids so I can’t even celebrate tonight with the bottle of Jack D. in my hands… I just hope some of you can do it for me? Haha…

“Once again, thank you for all the support!”

“Evangelion” spent four weeks on the official chart in Poland, coming in at the #1 spot three weeks in a row after debuting at #2, just behind MICHAEL JACKSON.

In a recent interview with Decibel magazine, Darski and bassist Orion (real name: Tomasz Wróblewski) both admitted that they have given serious consideration to moving away from Poland. “The more places we see, the less connected we feel with the place we live in,” Wróblewski said. “All of them seem more attractive than Poland. But you get used to a place where you live, and it’s kind of hard to move. But it’s possible, yes.”

“I’m always thinking about it,” Darski admitted. “I was just in New York for a few days, and I was thinking about it then. I mean, I’m rooted here, right? I’ve got my family here; I’ve got a nice apartment; I’ve got a few friends. And I was born here. But I would have no problems to live my life a few months in Poland and maybe a few months somewhere else. If one day I fall in love in Portugal or Brazil, I’m not gonna think twice. I’ll buy an apartment in one of those countries and just move there and try to live a normal life.”

Darski continued, “I can’t understand why people come to Poland and say, ‘Oh, this country is so nice and the people are so cool.’ I tell them, ‘No — these people are not cool. It’s just a façade. They just pretend. Deep in their hearts, they are evil human beings.’ You see, people in this country are very backward-thinking and very conservative. People who don’t grow up here don’t know the reality, and they will never find out.”

Holy Mother of God… This isn’t happening. It just can’t be… What happened to sanity, logic and clear thought as soon as I put the play button? Where is my head and jaw hiding? Why did this release have to be once more so perfect, that i feel idiot whatever i’m going to write? I feel like a prisoner somewhere in a void, bound by chains, unable to move, and ”Evangelion”, the last release of Behemoth is the ideal soundtrack for the doom that awaits me.

Once again caught by surprise by the Polish trio, once again this feeling that Nergal is going to come out of the speakers and tear your throat, your soul, your every being apart. Once again this feeling that the three guys sound like an army, filled with affinity, ready to crush everything and everyone who stands in front their purpose: Absolute brutality, profound lust to leave no signs of life in their wake. Supreme domination and full establishment as one of the most important bands today. I dare not think there is even one opposing them. He will soon find himself in a place where there is no return, as punishment for not believing in them. While others tend to hold themselves back, Behemoth come back with all their weapons of destruction.

Each time they become more brutal and pounding, always sounding fresh and direct. I don’t know many bands who can do that today. From the first seconds of ”Daimonos”, until the last moments of ”Lucifer”, an eight-minute epic, everything is here. Blasting rhythms, mid-tempo swamp-like parts, with Nergal sounding as the prophet of Armageddon, Orion being the pulse of this monster walking towards you, and Inferno totally out of control, like an automaton full of bullets that keeps refuelling all the time and filling you with bullets. Bullets that don’t cause death but much greater damage. Addiction, obsession, need and irresistability to put the cd once again from the beginning.

This year, the nightmare lasts 44 minutes, the scenery is called ”Evangelion” and the tormentor is called Behemoth. Can you feel it coming? Or have you already started feeling weak, unable and afraid of what’s to come?

Check out the cover artwork below.

Commented Nergal (guitar, vocals): “‘Evangelion’ combines a pure art form with a direct message. It was also important for us to ensure that the graphical presentation did justice to the record. Again, we have worked with Tomasz Danilowicz, who has created his best illustration yet for BEHEMOTH. The picture is of The Great Harlot of Babylon riding the seven-headed beast. Saints bow before her in worship whilst the tablets of the Ten Commandments lie broken at her feet. It represents our vision and the interpretation of the New Testament parable where the ‘Whore of Babylon’ is a symbol of rebellion and resistance against God. I am fascinated by stories whose source lies in the Bible and we have used biblical symbolism, coupled with my own experience and outlook, in our lyrics or on the covers of previous BEHEMOTH records. I love to juggle with meanings and play around with symbolism which is exactly what I have done in this case. The main character of our new cover is an archetype of disobedience, individualism, self-determination and a free, unfettered will — these are universal keywords which are typical and crucial in understanding the character of our works, life as a whole and the true nature of man.”

Nergal previously stated about the new material, “I must confess that I’m way more excited about this record than I was for [2007's] ‘The Apostasy’. It’s probably the whole label situation that we had to deal back then, Inferno’s injury that caused crazy deadlines that completely drained the energy out of my system… I even started treating that album as unwanted child. Weird, because from time perspective, it’s a great one. This time though everything was planned much in advanced. I found time to live my life, get some energy back, get inspired and so on… When we met in October it was obvious that all of us were really hungry for making new music. It’s definitely 100% BEHEMOTH. I would risk saying that we do have our own style but it’s still improving, evolving in different directions every time we approach new project. Most of the songs are the really fast, technical and intense, at the same time there’s a lot of diversity. There’s even a very slow, massive song that’s probably the most epic tracks in BEHEMOTH’s history. Everything sounds more serious and…dangerous (I love that word, ha ha). There’s probably more sinister vibe in our music this time too.”

BEHEMOTH has been confirmed for the second annual Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, set to take place this summer. The band will perform on the Hot Topic stage alongside CANNIBAL CORPSE, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, JOB FOR A COWBOY and WHITECHAPEL on over 25 dates.

Polish extreme metalers BEHEMOTH have finished recording their ninth full-length studio album, “Evangelion”, due out this summer via Metal Blade (USA) and Nuclear Blast (Europe). Mainman Adam “Nergal” Darski will fly to the U.K. on May 12 to join producer Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, SLIPKNOT, NAPALM DEATH, CARCASS), who is currently mixing the record at Miloco Studios in London.

Commented Nergal: “I’ve just finished tracking down the vocals for ‘Evangelion’. My cords are worn out and I can hardly speak but at the same time I’m sooo happy and satisfied with the way it turned out this time. I think there was something missing in my vocal performance on the previous record, ‘The Apostasy’. With ‘Evangelion’, I made sure it doesn’t sound just brutal… songs are more diverse and so are my vocals. There’s definitely more emotions and expression in it. You’ll be surprised!”

Regarding the album title, Nergal said, “I’ve had this title in my head for almost a year now and it grew on me. It sounds nothing but powerful and epic which perfectly mirrors the essence of the new album. ‘Evangelion’ comes from a Greek word [meaning] ’spreading the word of God’ or ’spreading the good news’… Oh, well, you already know that we love to play with the meanings and symbolism. We’re here to show you our interpretation of what ‘Evangelion’ really is.”

“Ezkaton”, the latest EP from BEHEMOTH, sold around 1,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD debuted at No. 26 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
