Ola says, “I’m super-stoked and I’m sure it will be amazing!”

Lindgren in 2009 stated about GREY HEAVENS, “For many years I have had plans to do a project to explore different sides of extreme music with ideas that simply would not fit in my main band.

“This is a more dark and experimental side of my musicality and shows a different approach to metal than just the straightforward death metal that has been my main inspiration and which has resulted in the eight GRAVE albums in the past 21 years.”

Three demo songs from GREY HEAVENS — “Primitvs”, “Abandoned Quest” and “Grey Heavens” — can be streamed below. Ola said about the two-year-old recording, “The drums for this promo are programmed, everything else is played/screamed and recorded/mixed by me.”

Triptykon
Anaal Nathrakh, Alcest
Kyttaro Club, Athens, Greece
03/10/2010.

Have you ever had the feeling that something heavy is pounded on your chest, right in the place where the heart beats and it doesn’t leave you breathe properly? Have you ever felt that despite knowing this is an uneasy situation, in the end of the course there’s a wicked smile on your face because you simply enjoyed it? Well, somehow like this is how things turned up after the gig of three different but great bands on that Sunday night in Athens.

Alcest opened the show, having a great sound and playing very good the demanding compositions they have created the last five years. Being always a one man band, it was a big deal to see how the rest of the line-up would help Neige on guitar and vocals. With great joy we all realised that we witnessed something that we probably will never see again. Beautiful music, played directly, with some people getting obsessed and moved and some others feeling a little tired after the middle of the show. In any case, Alcest is a band you all must discover.

Anaal Nathrakh made the gig of their lifes. DEFINITELY! This violent, hateful, anarchistic sound found its best response to the Athenian crowd, with the title track from their latest release ”In The Constellation Of The Black Widow” opening the massacre. For the next 60 minutes, all hell broke loose with tunes such as ”Submission Is For The Weak”, ”More Of Fire Than Blood”, ”The Lucifer Effect”, ”Der Hölle Rache Kocht In Meinem Herzen”, ”When The Lion Devours Both Dragon And Child” and of course ”The Codex Necro” and ”Do Not Speak”.

I am pretty sure that the band members didn’t believe what they saw, there was a part where seven people had a great stagedive (together) and V.I.T.R.I.O.L. stated that if there was a way that this tour would end and leave them satisfied, it would be like in Athens, thanking us a million times and really having nothing to say from a point and on. They destroyed the place and they prepared the ground for what they said ”Death itself”, characterizing Triptykon more suitably than expected.

While Anaal Nathrakh were playing, somebody said ”Is there anyway Triptykon can sound better than this?”, I am pretty sure that he has regreted it so far. For what we saw, simply cannot be described. Entering with a very slow, a very heavy and a very unique ”Procreation Of The Wicked”, with a sound coming from the depths of darkness, loud as fuck and ear-bleeding, the course was set. Whatever followed, was under a pitch black colour, surrounding the whole place. Total absence of light, hope and future.

”Goetia” sounds so gigantic that proves the best way Triptykon have released the best album of the year (”Eparistera Daimones”). Next to come is the Celtic Frost anthem ”Circle Of The Tyrants” and moshpit massacre is created once again. ”Babylon Fell (Jade Serpent)” was the best surprise of all times in a live gig for me, even for this one it was worth coming to see the show. Simply amazing, with ”Abyss Within My Soul”, my favourite Triptykon tune following and blackening even the most single part of the club.

It is most certain that tunes like ”Dethroned Emperor” make the weight of the world seem heavier in every riff, only with the difference that Thomas Gabriel Fischer is THE enthroned emperor in our hearts, especially when laughing just to make us chill, just to see how he enjoys it and how he loves us (because he really does, he stated that one of the best Celtic Frost shows was in Athens and that he’s very grateful for that). ”In Shrouds Decayed” only made matters worse as the main part of the set was off.

”Necromantical Screams” and ”The Usurper” made necks cry and the best part was in the end, with ”Synagoga Satanae” and ”The Prolonging” creating the worst nightmares we could have. Fischer has a soul that’s filled with pain, anger and shit and this reflects on his music the last 30 years. This is why we love him, this is why he turns into gold whatever he touches, like a modern Midas. This is why Triptykon came here to stay. Eparistera Daimones (demons on the left), Epidexia Daimones (demons on the right), Epikentrois Daimones (demons on the center), Epipantos Daimones (demons for life). Lie upon lie, mankind shall die. Lord, have mercy on our souls…

Aggelos “Redneck” Katsouras.

I always wanted to state my opinion on this and it’s the perfect time to do it now, just to put some things in order because some people think they can prove us idiots. Yes, the comeback of the 21st century, either you like it or not, was the last Celtic Frost album entitled ”Monotheist”. It was 2006 and you can steal hear the sound of carcasses dropping like meat on the floor, because of the effect this album STILL has after four years. Now that we have solved this little issue, it is about time to dive deep into the murky waters of the suffocating sea of Tom Warrior’s new band, Triptykon and its first release ”Eparistera Daimones”.

First fact is that Warrior is angry. Very angry. Full of rage inside him, furious from the pain that surrounds him. He has the urge to make us all understand what he’s coming through. He wants us to stand by his side, as this is a big bet for him. He is not a person who would care about press reviews or fan opinions, as he has been demonstrative in his whole lifetime. Each release he ever did was different and in very hard times back then. Don’t forget what happened when Celtic Frost released either ”Into The Pandemonium” or ”Cold Lake”. Not to mention his Apollyon Sun days where none understood what he was doing back then.

This time, Triptykon sounds ready to stay among us and conquer the world. This album is the definition of negativity in all matters. It’s blacker than a thousand nights without stars. It’s heavier than a valley of anvils falling straight to your head. It’s so hateful and bitter that you’re going to feel that walls surround you, even if you’re outside on the road and listen to it through headphones. Finally, it’s so threatening that you get the feeling that the creatures of the morbid and phenomenal cover of the album are going to attack you, leaving you soulless and unaware of everything, without need to kill you. Just make you stun and obey to them.

From the first moments of ”Goetia”, the 11 minute opener of this atrocity, what you knew of your past is going to end. Then a dividing line will enter your mind and your whole being will pass the other side and never look back. Warrior sounds so confident and aggressive here, no argues he has come to set new boundaries in our whole scene, especially with the next track ”Abyss Within My Soul”, which could become the trademark of this release, doomy and swampy as hell. Pure trademark of Warrior’s songwriting for about three decades. Only this time it is evolving into something even more monstrous.

I can write so much about this release that has sent me to hell and back, with Limbo, Abyss and many outer planes as inbetween destinations. I see monsters surrounding me, staring at me threatening, just to make me shit my pants. They don’t look hostile, just certain I’m going to be a slave to them. How can eight songs (plus the sickening ”Shrine” interlude) and 72 minutes make someone look lesser than everything and everyone? Unaware of what’s around me I declare myself as defeated by Triptykon’s uniqueness. Some would say this is ”Monotheist” part 2. I just say it is an album that leaves ”Monotheist” behind, as it is totally different in all ways.

Though the songs were written for what was to be Celtic Frost’s new album, Warrior managed to give them another identity. Just a living of nearly 20 minute opus ”The Prolonging” will convince you for sure. Enough and also so little said about this. Hats off once again. What fears me most is that they may surpass this in the future. Lord have mercy on my soul…
