CROWBAR guitarist/vocalist Kirk Windstein was interviewed for a recent edition of the “Thunder Underground” podcast. You can now listen to the chat using the SoundCloud widget below.

Speaking about CROWBAR‘s plans for the follow-up to 2014’s “Symmetry In Black” album, Kirk said” “We’ve got four songs written that are really killer. We’ll probably get at least another one or two — hopefully two — written between when this tour [with SOULFLY] ends [in November] and going out with HIGH ON FIRE in December. And then in the month of January, we really need to buckle down and make sure we finish up the other half of the record. [And we’ll] get in the studio in early February, probably.”

Windstein said that he hoped the next CROWBAR album would come together more quickly than “Symmetry In Black”, which was delayed by scheduling conflicts. He explained: “The last album was kind of difficult, because Jeff [Golden, bass] was just coming in. He didn’t know the back catalogue. We had a tour set up, so we we had to concentrate with him more [on] learning the setlist and rehearsing that. So in the middle of rehearsing the setlist to go on tour, as well as trying to write at the same time, really, four of the songs were kind of written in the studio. And we lucked out and they came out great, but it doesn’t always work that way.”

He continued: “We had a lot of interruptions as well. Like idiots, we booked the studio from, like, December 16, and, of course, a few days later it’s holiday time for everybody. And our engineer, Duane Simoneaux, his wife had a child during the studio thing and a new baby; it was, like, their third kid. We didn’t realize we’d be breaking for Christmas, breaking for New Year’s. We did a fly-in date in Chicago. We come back, get everything rolling, and Duane‘s new baby’s born, and that’s a week off. We just didn’t think it out. So this time, hopefully, with no interruption and proper preparation, when we get in the fucking studio, we can knock the shit out.”

“Symmetry In Black” sold around 3,900 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 68 on The Billboard 200 chart.

CROWBAR‘s previous CD, 2011’s “Sever The Wicked Hand”, opened with around 3,500 units to land at position No. 4 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Symmetry In Black” came out in North America on May 27, 2014 via Entertainment One Music. The CD, which was made available in Europe on May 26, 2014 through Century Media Records, was produced by Windstein and Duane Simoneaux and was mixed by Josh Wilbur (LAMB OF GOD, GOJIRA).
