DEFTONES Frontman Says Shelved ‘Eros’ Album Will Finally See Light Of Day

DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno says that it is now more likely than ever before that the band's shelved 2008 album "Eros" will see the light of day. In late 2008, the group was putting the finishing touches on the CD when their bassist, Chi Cheng, suffered major injuries and was left in a coma following a November 2008 car crash in Santa Clara, California. After the accident, DEFTONES decided to scrap the project and later recruited Sergio Vega, formerly of QUICKSAND, to play bass. They have released two albums since.

IRON MAIDEN Beer Officially Launched

IRON MAIDEN's Trooper beer was officially launched yesterday (Thursday, May 9) at Robinsons Brewery in Cheshire, with a reception attended by brewing trade representatives from both the U.K. and internationally. As fans may have read recently, the unprecedented upfront demand for the beer meant Robinsons had to brew three times a day, six days a week for the first time ever in the brewery's 175-year history to cope with pre-orders in excess of 300,000 pints. Robinsons were overwhelmed by the number of enquiries they'd had from all over the world and sent the band a comprehensive listing of whereabouts the interest had been — from a staggering 184 countries! So, a big thanks to all MAIDEN fans and it's great to know the MAIDEN family extends into so many places where the band have never even had a chance to play before!

JON OLIVA: More Solo Album Details Revealed

JON OLIVA'S PAIN and SAVATAGE mastermind Jon Oliva will release his first-ever solo album, "Raise The Curtain", on June 5 via AFM Records. The 11-song CD, which contains ideas collected over the course of the last four or five years, was tracked this past winter at Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida with producer Tom Morris, with Jon handling laying down nearly all the instrument tracks and vocals himself as well as playing drums on three songs.

U.K. College Offering Two-Year Course In Heavy Metal

According to BBC News, New College Nottingham (NCN) — which is said to be one of the largest further education colleges in the U.K. — is offering a two-year degree in heavy metal music. The course was developed over a seven-month period by Liam Maloy, a lecturer in music performance at NCN, who describes the class as "academically rigorous." "In the past, heavy metal has not been taken seriously and is seen as lacking academic credibility when compared with other genres such as jazz and classical music," he adds. "But that's just a cultural construction."

VADER: New Songtitles Revealed

Polish death metal veterans VADER will enter the studio in November to begin recording their new album for an early 2014 release. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Abandon All Hope", "Bring Them To Me"and "Infernal Poetry". VADER's latest album, "Welcome To The Morbid Reich", was released in Europe on August 12, 2011 and in North America on September 13, 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records. The effort was recorded at Hertz Studio in Bialystok, Poland and features the cover artwork of Zbigniew Bielak(DESTRÖYER 666, WATAIN). The band laid down a total of 12 songs for the CD, which was mixed and mastered in May 2011.

SATYRICON To Perform With Norwegian National Opera Chorus

Norwegian black metallers SATYRICON will perform with the Norwegian National Opera Chorus on September 8 at Den Norske Opera & Ballett in Oslo, Norway. A press release states: "Mixing musical modes of expression is always interesting. New sound pictures emerge, and when they are successful, new directions in style and genre are created. "What would a mix of heavy metal rockers and singers with operatic training produce? Let's find out! LEAVES’ EYES Putting Finishing Touches On New Album

LEAVES' EYES — the German/Norwegian band formed by ex-THEATRE OF TRAGEDY singer Liv Kristine Espenaes Krull and members of ATROCITY— is mixing its new album, "Symphonies Of The Night", for a late 2013 release via Napalm Records. The CD is being produced by Liv's husband,ATROCITY singer and LEAVES' EYES co-vocalist Alexander Krull, at hisMastersound Studio in Germany. HYPOCRISY: First Two Albums To Be Re-Released As Limited 2CD Box With Bonus Tracks

Swedish death metal veterans HYPOCRISY will have their classic albums"Penetralia" and "Osculum Obscenum", re-released as a limited 2CD box on July 12 via Nuclear Blast Records. The LPs were remastered and enriched with extensive bonus material. In 1992, HYPOCRISY signed its first contract with Nuclear Blast Records and released its monumental debut, "Penetralia". It marks the only time that the band functioned as a five-piece. The follow-up effort,"Osculum Obscenum" (1993) marked another milestone in the history of crushing extreme death metal. Driver In BARONESS Tour Bus Crash May Never Face Charges

Savannah, Georgia-based quartet BARONESS was involved in a road accident on August 15, 2012 in England when the band's tour bus reportedly plummeted for 30 feet over a viaduct after going through a security barrier during heavy rain. Nine people, including the four members of the group, were sent to the hospital, two of them with serious injuries. According to BBC News, the driver of the bus — a German national by the name of Norman Markus — was to be charged with dangerous driving, using a vehicle with defective brakes and breaching a 7.5-ton weight limit. He was summonsed to attend the court on Friday for a preliminary hearing, but his attorney, Jonathan Turner, said that if Markus chose not to attend court "nothing can be done" because the summons was not served in the U.K.
