According to the Birmingham Mail, an Australian woman has launched an online petition to try to secure a knighthood for BLACK SABBATH singer Ozzy Osbourne.

Helen Maidiotis, from Sydney, writes on the campaign’s Facebook page: “Ozzy has been an inspiration to many great musicians over the last 40 years. He is a credit to his country and I believe that a knighthood forOzzy is one well deserved and long overdue.”

Only 112 people have signed the petition so far.

British honors are awarded on merit, for exceptional achievement or service.

Anybody can recommend a British national for an honor and most awards go to members of the public or civil servants.

Nominations are divided into subject areas and assessed by eight committees comprising both senior civil servants and independent experts. Their assessments are passed to a selection committee that produces the list that is submitted to the Queen through the prime minister. The Queen formally approves the list of recipients and the honors are published in the official Crown newspaper, the London Gazette.
