MASTODON vocalist and guitarist Brent Hinds posted a picture on Instagram yesterday (Saturday, January 17) of him playing a steel pedal guitar with the caption: “Got to work on a really cool new Mastodon song today! First time playing my new 13 string pedal steel I got from @robertrandolf.”

Robert Randolph is a virtuoso on the upright steel pedal guitar — which is the primary element in the African-American religious music known as “sacred steel” — and also is a guest performer for the likes of B.B. King, Eric Clapton and Dave Matthews.

MASTODON‘s sixth album, “Once More ‘Round The Sun”, sold around 34,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 6 on The Billboard 200 chart. The record arrived in stores on June 24, 2014 via Reprise Records.

“Once More ‘Round The Sun” was recorded in Nashville with Grammy Award-winning producer Nick Raskulinecz, who is known for his work with RUSH, DEFTONES, FOO FIGHTERS and ALICE IN CHAINS.
