ANTHRAX Guitarist’s ‘Blood & Guts': Second Episode Available
October 18, 2012
“Blood & Guts”, the Nerdist YouTube channel web series hosted by ANTHRAXguitarist Scott Ian, premiered on October 3. In the series’ second episode episode (see below), join Ian as he gets the Fangoria splatter treatment when a mold is taken of his head, which is painstakingly recreated just in time to meet a chainsaw-wielding maniac!
“I’ve been neck-deep in blood and guts for the last 30 years playing in ANTHRAX,” stated Scott Ian, “so I couldn’t be more excited to be hosting a show called ‘Blood & Guts’ for you horror and metal fans.”
When asked how his collaboration with Nerdist came about, Ian told Nerdist.com, “Just out of the blue last week, [Nerdist founder] Chris [Hardwick] hit me up and asked me if it was something I’d be interested in. He felt my personality was right for this. I guess the backstory on it would be that when they first came up with the idea for ‘Talking Dead’, I got a call about shooting the pilot, and my job was field reporter. What they did for my segment was send me out to the set of one of the webisodes, and then Greg Nicotero and his team made me up as a zombie and I got to be a walker. I had closeups and everything in the webisode. When it got picked up, they didn’t keep me as field reporter — that position, I guess, wasn’t something they were gonna move forward with — but Chris just kept it in the back of his mind. I can only assume that when Nerdist and Fangoria had the idea to do this show, Chris said I’d be the right guy to be going out and hosting these things because of the bit I did on ‘Talking Dead’.”
On the topic of his favorite horror make-up moments of all time, Ian said, “The first thing to pop into my mind is when Tom Savini gets torn apart in ‘Dawn Of The Dead’. That scared me as a kid and I guess you could kinda say it stayed with me in a good way. The scene in ‘Scanners’ when his head blows up, that’s a classic. Anything in ‘Evil Dead’ or ‘Evil Dead 2′. I know I mentioned this, but I just watched ‘Drive’ last week and that scene where she gets her head blown off is straight out of an ’80s horror movie. The movie’s not necessarily slow, but very Michael Mann, ’80s kinda pacing, very moody and all that — and then all of a sudden that hotel-room scene happens and you’re just, like, ‘Holy crap!’ and then from there it’s just 100 miles an hour. I was blown away with that movie.”
Studied Business Administration, Panagiotis is Metalpaths' founder and co-editor-in-chief. He still believes that can be the... guiding light to extreme music (NOT!) and he would die to see a Pantera reunion show.
Legendary grindcore godfathers BRUTAL TRUTH and seminal, abrasive-noise terroristsBASTARD NOISE have teamed up for a split record of harsh power-electronic noise insanity. Combining over four decades of grinding noise dominance, “The Axiom Of Post Inhumanity” is a long-overdue pairing of extreme music veterans that is sure to push the limits of even the most masochistic listeners.
Available on CD, LP and digital formats, “The Axiom Of Post Inhumanity” will be released on November 11 via Relapse Records. Both the CD and LP formats of the release contain entirely different sets of music from both bands while the digital version collects all of the tracks onto one compilation.
The album is available for pre-order via Relapse mailorder.

The second installment of SLIPKNOT’s Knotfest will be held on October 24-26 in San Bernardino, California. The Iowa-based band will headline two days (Friday and Saturday) of the event, playing a different set each night, with more than two dozen other acts rounding out the rest of the the three-day bill. The Friday-night festivities will serve as a pre-party bash for fans who purchase VIP or camping packages.
Fans who purchase tickets to Knotfest will receive a digital copy of SLIPKNOT’s new album when it’s eventually released.
As previously reported, 2014 will also see the debut of Knotfest Japan. Set for November 15 and November 16 at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo, Knotfest Japan will feature SLIPKNOT who performed at last year’s Ozzfest Japan, which drew capacity crowds and wide critical acclaim. The two-day music festival, headlined by SLIPKNOT on both days, will feature a mix of more than 20 international and Japanese bands.
“Knotfest is a chance for SLIPKNOT to bring the sensory-overload of a wild European festival — and now we’re coming for you, California,” says SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan. “Playing two different sets over two nights at one location is a new experience in the history of this band. This year’s Knotfests in the U.S. and Japan are going to be on another level.”
Early-bird discounted tickets, as well as camping packages, for Knotfest at the San Manuel Amphitheater & Campgrounds in San Bernardino go on sale Monday, July 7, at 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET, with VIP packages available starting Wednesday, July 9.
