AS I LAY DYING Singer TIM LAMBESIS Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison

AS I LAY DYING frontman Tim Lambesis was given a six-year prison sentence without probation for his role in a murder-for-hire plot. The singer's ex-bandmates Nick Hipa, Phil Sgrosso and Josh Gilbert were present in the San Diego Superior courtroom earlier today (Friday, May 16) when Judge Carlos Armour handed down the sentencing. The 33-year-old musician, who received 48 days credit for custody already served, pleaded guilty in February to hiring a hit man to kill his estranged wife, Meggan. The singer's attorney offered no stipulated plea deal, which means the judge had the freedom to apply whatever sentence he determines appropriate, with a maximum of 9 years in state prison plus 4 years parole after release. The judge confirmed at today's sentencing that Meggan and the couple's three adopted children from Ethiopia would receive 10 years' protection. According to Radio.com, the family of the victim, Meggan, spoke to the court at today's sentencing, as did Meggan herself. Meggan's father, Mike Murphy, who was the first to address he court, claimed that the family still fears Meggan's assassination, stating, "We know that prison is a great alibi for someone who wants to complete the deed." Murphy added, "He was only worried about the money. Tim is only sorry he got caught. Meggan's mother also spoke at the hearing, calling Lambesis an abusive husband who regarded Meggan as "a mere inconvenience to this narcissistic child." For her part, Meggan — who is now known as Meggan Murphy — told the judge: "My name used to be Meggan Lambesis. Up until two years ago, my life was entirely devoted to that man. She added that Tim had become "dangerous" and that she "felt as fragile as a piece of paper that could float away at any moment." She also explained that the day before Tim's arrest, the musician texted her asking for their three adopted children's social security numbers in a display of "tying up loose ends." Meggan — who reportedly received an e-mail from her husband several months before she filed for divorce telling her that he no longer loved her or believed in God — even referenced the Arnold Schwarzenegger film "Total Recall", where Arnold's character shoots his wife and says, "Consider that a divorce." She went on to describe how she learned that her husband told her in an e-mail that he wanted a divorce. But it never crossed her mind that he would try to hire a hit man to kill her. "I had no idea who I was living with," she said, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune. She added: "The question of who else Tim talked to or will talk to will forever haunt me," noting that she had seen "horrible comments" online from Lambesis' fans about her and her family. She said because of Lambesis' notoriety, he has followers who would do anything for him. "I am plagued by vulnerability," she said. When it was Tim's turn to speak, the vocalist openly wept and struggled to get the words out. "I do feel deep remorse," he said. "I want to thank you. For her prayers, which proves you still have the heart that you do." Lambesis also claimed that he wasn't able to verbally apologize to Meggan in the past due to restraining orders. Meggan filed a civil lawsuit against Tim back in August, seeking over $2 million. She has reportedly asked for $1 million for emotional distress and $25,000 in medical expenses to date. This is in addition to $75,000 she's seeking for future medical expenses and $1 million in punitive damages. The suit is also seeking attorney's fees. That case is still pendin

URIAH HEEP: ‘One Minute’ Video Released

The official video for "One Minute", the new single from URIAH HEEP, one of the pivotal hard rock groups to emerge from England in the late 1960s, can be seen below. The track is available for download (iTunes, Amazon, etc.) and legal streaming (Spotify, Deezer, etc.) on all digital platforms across the world. The new single is also available in a special version with German lyrics, called "Eine Minute". "One Minute" is taken from URIAH HEEP's 24th studio album, and the first since 2011's "Into The Wild", "Outsider", which will be released on June 9 in the U.K., June 6 in the rest of Europe and June 10 in North America via Frontiers Records. "We are very proud of our history," says URIAH HEEP founder/guitarist Mick Box, "but it is equally important to keep producing new material. This new album, 'Outsider', is very much a rock album in true HEEP style. It shows that we still have the same passion and energy for our music that we have always had." From the opening chords of the album's hard-driving rocker "Speed Of Sound" to the more introspective closer "Say Goodbye", "Outsider" proves that URIAH HEEP has remained a musical powerhouse, and one that can effectively balance its legendary sound with a distinctly contemporary approach. The record, which was produced by Mike Paxman (ASIA, STATUS QUO), also introduces bassist Dave Rimmer, who joined the band last summer after the untimely death of long time member, Trevor Bolder. Says Box of his late friend, Bolder: "We lost a world class bass player, singer, songwriter and friend. While Trevor was ill, he wanted us to continue working, so we used a bass player called Dave Rimmer, who Trevor approved of. It was only natural that Dave carried on with the band." After major tours of Europe, Scandinavia, Russia and South America, upon the release of "Outsider", URIAH HEEP will launch a world tour that will take in many continents as the band promotes the new album to an international audience. TAYLOR: NEW SLIPKNOT ALBUM WILL BE ‘EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT IT TO BE’

Robert Herrera of FrontRowLiveEnt.com spoke to SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR singer Corey Taylor on the red carpet of this past Monday's (May 12) 10th annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert, which honored BLACK SABBATH singer Ozzy Osbourne. Speaking about the progress of the songwriting sessions for SLIPKNOT's long-awaited follow-up to 2008's "All Hope Is Gone", Taylor said (see video below): "The album is coming along. I actually left the studio to come right down here. So it's a matter of time, trust me. It's gonna be rad… Everything is going exactly how it needs to go. So it's gonna be really awesome." Taylor also addressed the long gap between SLIPKNOT studio albums, telling FrontRowLiveEnt.com: "The good thing is we've always been writing, so there's a ton of stuff that we're pretty stoked on. It's exactly what you want it to be." As previously reported, SLIPKNOT is rumored to have recruited former MADBALL and AGAINST ME! drummer Jay Weinberg to assist them during the sessions for the band's new studio album following last year's departure of Joey Jordison. Weinberg — the 23-year-old son of Max Weinberg (BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E STREET BAND) — was most recently a member of AGAINST ME!, having played with the Florida-based act from November 2010 until December 2012. Weinberg joined AGAINST ME! shortly after he was ousted from MADBALL and following the departure of AGAINST ME!'s previous sticksman, George Rebelo. In May 2013, Weinberg filled in for KVELERTAK drummer Kjetil Gjermundrod during the band's North American tour because Gjermundrod had to bow out of the run after experiencing significant pain in his arm. SLIPKNOT announced in December 2013 that it had parted ways with Jordison, one of the band's founding members and key songwriters. The group posted a statement at its web site which read, "It is with great pain but quiet respect that, for personal reasons, Joey Jordison and SLIPKNOT are parting ways. We all wish Joey the best in whatever his future holds. We understand that many of you will want to know how and why this has come to be, and we will do our best to respond to these questions in the near future." The statement added, "It is our love for all of you, as well as for the music we create, that spurs us to continue on and move forward with our plans for releasing new material in the next year. We hope that all of you will come to understand this, and we appreciate your continued support while we plan the next phase of the future of SLIPKNOT." SLIPKNOT has not disclosed the reasons for Jordison's exit, although the drummer issued a statement in January saying that he did not quit the band. SLIPKNOT's forthcom

TONY IOMMI Says BLACK SABBATH’s Performance At London’s Hyde Park Could Be Band’s Last-Ever Concert

BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi has told Metal Hammer magazine that the band's headlining appearance at the Barclaycard British Summer Time festival at London's Hyde Park may turn out to be the legendary heavy metal group's final gig. The July 4 event will see SABBATH perform alongside SOUNDGARDEN, FAITH NO MORE, MOTÖRHEAD and SOULFLY on the festival's main stage. "It could be the last ever SABBATH show," Iommi told Metal Hammer. "I don't want it to be, but there's nothing really planned touring-wise after that show, so for all we know that could be it, really. To be honest, I don't want to be touring to this extent too much longer, because it makes me feel so bad." Iommi has had to go back to England every six weeks for treatment ever since being diagnosed with lymphoma in 2012, forcing him and SABBATH to work around both the treatments and the recovery time needed afterward. "I'm at a stage now where I have no support, which means I have to see whether the cancer is coming back or if it's still there or what," he said. "I just don't know. It's a bit of a worry. After we finish this tour, I'll go in and have scan, so we'll see what that shows up." "But the show at Hyde Park will a great way to end the European tour," he added. "It has a really great bill, with a really good mix of people. We haven't made any specific plans as the gig is a way off yet, but I think it'll be special." Last year, Iommi said that his ongoing treatments and their physical side effects could severely restrict SABBATH's activities, explaining, "I can't commit to doing another two years or anything like that. I have to play it as it comes now." Singer Ozzy Osbourne told The Pulse Of Radio that Iommi never let his treatments slow him down during the making of the recent SABBATH album, "13". "My hat goes off to him 'cause he really is Iron Man," he said. "I mean, that chemotherapy knocks you sideways, you know. I mean, when my wife had cancer a few years back, she was having three chemo things a month and it would knock the life out of — literally every time she'd have a treatment, she'd have a seizure. It's scary stuff. But he came down, plugged in and carried on. He's my hero, I swear to God he is." "13", the first SABBATH release in 35 years to feature Iommi, Osbourne and Geezer Butler playing together, was released in June 2013 and landed the band its first-ever No. 1 album in the U.S., also topping the chart in the U.K. and a number of other countries. The band also earned three 2014 Grammy Award nominations, for "Best Rock Album" for "13", plus "Best Metal Performance" and "Best Rock Song" for "God Is Dead?" The making of "13" was marked by several dramatic events, including drummer Bill Ward's withdrawal from the project over a contractual dispute. Butler told Revolver that he started writing a song for "13", called "Hanging By A Thread", that was inspired by Iommi's illness. He explained, "It was very much about dying, about giving your last breath and passing your spirit on." But the track didn't make it onto the album because, Butler said, "We never came up with the finished thing." SABBATH completed a 10-date North American run on April 26 in Los Angeles. blacksabbathhydepark2014_638

JIMMY PAGE Writing New Songs: ‘I’ve Got Lots of Material’

LED ZEPPELIN legend Jimmy Page told RollingStone.com that he will be playing guitar "daily for the foreseeable future" with a view towards "getting to a point where I could play some gigs." He added: "What those gigs are going to be, I don't know yet. I have ideas of what I want to do, but they're pretty complex. I would love to play live again. I love playing live. It's wonderful." Page, who put out "Outrider", his one and only solo album, in 1988, revealed to RollingStone.com that he's "got lots of material I've written on acoustic guitar. Lots and lots. And right now I need to get myself up to speed, and that won't take too long. But I don't know what musicians I'd play with. I do have material and a passion for it. I need to work towards it, and now I can without all the other side issues going on." According to The Pulse Of Radio, Jimmy Page will be the commencement speaker on May 10 at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. The Associated Press reported that Page will address graduating seniors art the Agganis Arena, with the college also presenting honorary doctorates to Motown songwriter Valerie Simpson — best known for her string of classics written with her late husband Nick Ashford, including "Let's Go Get Stoned", "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "You're All I Need To Get By", "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing", "Reach Out And Touch (Somebody's Hand)" and "Solid (As A Rock)". Page, who's now 70, has been playing guitar since he was 12. The Pulse Of Radio asked him what originally attracted him to the instrument. "It was just that whole thing of the transmission of ideas through the tactile quality of playing an instrument, y'know, your steel, strings and wood, translating through the electric pickup through the amp, and that's really what it is for me," he said. "It's that, some magical quality, really. Some sort of alchemy, if you like." Coming on June 3 will be deluxe editions of LED ZEPPELIN's first three albums: "Led Zeppelin", "Led Zeppelin II" and "Led Zeppelin III". The launch of the reissue program, which is being led by Jimmy Page, includes the band opening "its vaults to share dozens of unheard studio and live recordings, with each album featuring a second disc of companion audio comprised entirely of unreleased music related to that album." The albums are being issued in six different versions — the Super Deluxe Box; Deluxe Edition; Deluxe Edition Vinyl; Single CD; Original Album Vinyl; and Digital Download.
