FINNTROLL: Toulouse Performance Footage

RockMeeting has uploaded video footage of FINNTROLL's October 14 performance in Toulouse, France. Check it out below. FINNTROLL's sixth album, "Blodsvept", was released on April 2 via Century Media Records. The follow-up to 2010's "Nifelvind" was recorded at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki and was mastered by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios. FINNTROLL's Henri "Trollhorn" Sorvali and his bandmates produced the album themselves, while the CD cover artwork was handled by FINNTROLL guitar player Samuli "Skyrmer" Ponsimaa. In regards to the new album, FINNTROLL commented on their studio blog: "Combining our trademark sound with even more influences from non- traditional genres in metal music, we have created 11 songs which show you everything we want to offer. And boy, wasn't that one of the hardest tasks for some time. After all, how do you keep your sound fresh, yet familiar, after 6 albums and 15 years? "At some point, we were afraid that the songs are not melodic enough. Then we started to fear they became too melodic. Then we let the songs rest for a while and molded them more in a way that the non-melodic stuff got something to hum with, and the cheesy pop songs were arranged more stripped and aggressive. We were confident, yet sometimes scared what will people think of the stuff we've been doing so hard. What if they hate it? That would be fine, but if they would hate it because the material was uninspiring, boring and done-to-death, that would be a huge disappointment. So, we kept pushing and tried to keep it fresh all the time, while still having the 'this has to be FINNTROLL because no other band sounds this insane' — grinning going on."

LED ZEPPELIN’s ‘Celebration Day’ To Make Its U.S. Television Debut On AXS TV

Continuing its mission to bring music back to television, AXS TV will showcase the television premiere of LED ZEPPELIN's "Celebration Day" concert film. Recorded live at London's O2 Arena on December 10, 2007, the film captures a two-hour-plus tour de force of the band's signature blues-infused rock 'n' roll that instantly became part of the legend of LED ZEPPELIN. Founding members John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were joined by Jason Bonham, the son of their late drummer John Bonham, to perform 16 songs from their celebrated catalog, including landmark tracks "Whole Lotta Love", "Rock And Roll", "Kashmir" and "Stairway To Heaven". Although 20 million people applied for tickets, the band's first headline show in 27 years was seen only by the 18,000 ticket holders who were fortunate enough to have secured seats through the worldwide lottery. The historic concert will premiere on AXS TV Concerts on Sunday, November 24 at 8-10 p.m. ET (5-7 p.m. PT). There will be encore broadcasts every night of the week at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT from Monday, November 25 through Thursday, November 28, Thanksgiving. The concert premiered theatrically last year and is also available on Blu-ray, DVD, CD, vinyl, and digital download, but has never been seen on television prior to its debut on AXS TV. "LED ZEPPELIN is such an integral part of the musical landscape and evolution of rock 'n' roll," said AXS TV founder Mark Cuban. "Making such a landmark performance accessible to millions of households is one of the ways AXS TV intends to bring music back to television." Following heralded premieres in New York, London, Berlin, and Tokyo, "Celebration Day" made its theatrical debut in 40 countries and over 1,500 screens. The concert was then released in multiple audio and video formats and shot to the top of charts worldwide. To date, "Celebration Day" has sold over 2 million copies worldwide.

SLAYER’s TOM ARAYA: JEFF HANNEMAN’s Death ‘Has Changed Everything’

Brian Aberback of New Jersey's Steppin' Out magazine recently conducted an interview with SLAYER bassist/vocalist Tom Araya. An excerpt from the chat follows below. Steppin' Out: You just started doing press for this tour and know that everyone will be asking about [late SLAYER guitarist] Jeff [Hanneman]. How do you feel talking about everything that's gone on in the past six months? Tom Araya: You know you're going to get those questions whether we decide to do press or not. If you don't do interviews, no one is aware that you're doing a tour. It wouldn't bother me if Kerry [King, guitar] did all the interviews. [laughs] But when I do interviews, I enter them with an open mind and try to answer the questions the best I can. Steppin' Out: Did you have any idea that Jeff was seriously ill before he died? Tom: Nobody ever thought about Jeff passing away. I thought about him getting better and getting back onstage. We've been talking about getting back in the studio for the last two years, with Jeff being a part of that. It was something to be continued. Steppin' Out: Have you thought about folding the band following his death? Tom: His death has changed everything. Knowing that Jeff was on the sidelines, I was OK. It was always about, "Jeff is going to come back." Then he passed away and it was more like, "Why am I doing this now?" It changed my attitude about some things. Someone said, "It's really great that you decided to tour and move on," but these tours were scheduled in advance. At the end of this tour, Kerry and I are going to have to sit down and talk as far as how we want to move forward, if we want to move forward. There hasn't been time for me and Kerry to talk. We've been on the road but we haven't really sat down and talked about it. Jeff and I collaborated a lot, and he offered me the opportunity to write or to collaborate with him. Like I said, there are things we have to discuss to either move forward or just to figure something out. Steppin' Out: How tough was it playing the first shows after Jeff's death this summer in Europe?

‘Thriller – A Metal Tribute To Michael Jackson’: More Details Revealed

Just in time for Halloween, a scarily impressive alliance of metal and hard rock luminaries has formed to create one of the most depraved abominations of musical crossbreeding in history — an all-metal tribute to the King Of Pop, Michael Jackson, available on CD October 22! Never before have such quintessential pop hits as "Beat It", "Thriller", "Billy Jean" and "Man In The Mirror" been so completely transformed, substituting softly stylized synths with crunchy, distorted guitars, replacing the pitter patter of programmed beats with pulverizing double bass acoustic drums, and topping it off with some of the finest, most powerful vocals in metal. When completed, these reinventions pay due respect to the expertly crafted melodies and songs that made Michael Jackson one of the most beloved figures in all of music, and offer legions of metalheads a reason to simultaneously grab their crotches and throw the horns in celebration! Spearheaded by producer/musician Bob Kulick, who also helped in the arrangement of these cover versions, the project was in his words a "labor of love" for all involved. Exclaims Kulick: "We made these awesome songs kick ass while still being faithful to the original versions. Add killer players like Doug Aldrich, Billy Sheehan, Bruce Kulick, Rudy Sarzo, Tony Franklin,Craig Goldy, Bumblefoot, Phil Campbell and you've got some real MAGIC!" Rudy Sarzo, a stalwart of the metal scene as a member of both QUIET RIOT and QUEENSRŸCHE, reflects: "Michael Jackson's music is synonymous with iconic rockers such as Eddie Van Halen, Steve Stevens and Slash. So it's only fitting that the rock community pays tribute to this legendary artist with Metal Mike!" And FISHBONE's Angelo Moore expresses great enthusiasm for his contribution, saying: "I never thought I would hear myself doing a cover of 'The Way You Make Me Feel', but it's an honor and a dream come true. We put a different twist on it to give it a whole new light, or maybe I should say a whole new dark!" In addition to the legends Kulick enlisted, several of today's modern metal figures also contributed, including Elias Soriano of NONPOINT, who comments, "It was my pleasure to do this tribute to MJ. My admiration for the talent and history he has given to music overall will be hard to replace. My only wish is that I did him justice with my performance." Jason Myers ofICARUS WITCH, one of the current flag bearers in the traditional metal scene, declares: "When we were approached by Cleopatra to contribute to the Michael Jackson tribute we were honored (due to the legendary talent already on board), but a bit skeptical about how our fans would react...Choosing an unorthodox hit took a bit of pressure off and allowed us to put more of ourselves into the track." Finally, bassist Tony Franklin, who has worked with everyone from LED ZEPPELIN's Jimmy Page to PINK FLOYD's David Gilmour to WHITESNAKE, confirms the surprise and astonishment many felt during the creation of the album, "The first thing I noticed was how easily these out and out pop songs translated to the metal genre. That is the sign of, one, a great song and, two, a great production and arrangement." He goes on to note that it wasn't just the songs that were transformed when Metal met Pop on these recordings; the performers themselves were transformed. He states, "It was very cool to see how the guest artists interpreted these songs as it brought out a different side of them - a side we wouldn't usually hear." "Thriller – A Metal Tribute To Michael Jackson" features appearances by the following musicians: * Chuck Billy (TESTAMENT) * Danny Worsnop (ASKING ALEXANDRIA) * Billy Sheehan (MR. BIG) * Angelo Moore (FISHBONE) * Doug Aldrich (WHITESNAKE, DIO) * Rudy Sarzo (QUIET RIOT, OZZY OSBOURNE, DIO) * Lajon Witherspoon (SEVENDUST) * Bruce Kulick (KISS) * Tony Franklin (THE FIRM) * Priya Panda (DIEMONDS) * Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (GUNS N' ROSES) * Corey Glover (LIVING COLOUR) * Phil Campbell (MOTÖRHEAD) * Elias Soriano (NONPOINT) * Doug Pinnick (KING'S X) * Chris Jericho (FOZZY) * Paul Di'Anno (IRON MAIDEN) * Craig Goldy (DIO) * Lonnie Jordan (WAR)

‘Love On The Rocks’ With STEEL PANTHER (Video)

Los Angeles glam-metal jokesters STEEL PANTHER have uploaded another episode of Steel Panther TV. This week's installment features drummer Stix Zadinia and bassist Lexxi Foxxhelping you navigate the rough and raw waters of love and sex. Have a question for Lexxi and Stix? Tweet your question with #LoveOnTheRocks and stay tuned each week. STEEL PANTHER has set "All You Can Eat" as the title of its third album, tentatively due in early 2014. A video for the song "Party Like It's The End Of The World" was due to be filmed last month. Regarding the new CD title, Starr said: "We feel like STEEL PANTHER is like a buffet. You know what I mean?! There's a little bit of everything for everybody. And you can have as much of us as you want." STEEL PANTHER's new album was recorded in part in Sherman Oaks, California with producerJay Ruston (ANTHRAX, STONE SOUR, MEATLOAF). Speaking to the South Bend Tribune, STEEL PANTHER drummer Stix Zadinia (real name:Darren Leader) stated about the band's new CD: "If you liked [2009's] 'Feel The Steel' and [2011's] 'Balls Out', you will love this record. It is more heavy metal songs that are hooky and great and fun and make you want to rock and make you want to have a good time and party. Also, there is a lot of riffage on this album that I think anybody who has ever questioned this band — 'Oh, those guys wear spandex and it is 2000-whatever' — these songs are going to put all of that to rest." STEEL PANTHER is the '80s metal/hard rock tribute band formerly known as METAL SKOOL. The group's lineup includes guitarist "Satchel" (real name Russ Parrish; ex-FIGHT) and singer"Michael Starr" (real name Ralph Saenz; ex-L.A. GUNS). Onstage, the band both pays tribute to and lampoons the heyday of '80s glam metal. The group's between-song comedy includes jests at conflict between bandmembers, discussions of drugs, sex, and improvised humor with the crowd. Regarding naysayers that say STEEL PANTHER is a joke-metal band, Zadinia said: "Listen to our record and tell us that our songs aren't better than most of the bands out there. How funny is that? At the end of the day, it comes down to the songs. I think our songs — without sounding egotistical — I think our songs are great. When you hear the hooks in our songs, you hear the playing and you hear the vocals, you throw that up against any band in any era, and I think it stands up." "Balls Out" sold nearly 12,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 40 on The Billboard 200 chart.

MOTÖRHEAD’s LEMMY To Guest On ‘Rockline’

MOTÖRHEAD mainman Lemmy Kilmister will guest on the nationally syndicated radio show"Rockline" with host Bob Coburn on Monday, October 28 at 8:30 p.m. PT / 11:30 p.m. ET. Fans are encouraged to speak with Lemmy by calling 1-800-344-ROCK (7625). The show will be streamed on the "Rockline" web site for two weeks beginning the afternoon after the live broadcast. For more information, visit RocklineRadio.com. Lemmy recently spoke to U.K.'s Classic Rock magazine about his health issues that have caused the band to cancel a number of European festival appearances this past summer — including shows in France, Germany and Russia. The dates were called off when doctors discovered an unspecified haematoma, a pool of leaked blood gathered in Lemmy's muscles. The legendary rocker is also suffering from Type 2 diabetes, diagnosed more than a decade ago, and has had a defibrillator fitted earlier this year to iron out the uneven bumps in his heart. "I don't mind you asking about my health," Lemmy told the magazine. "I've been poorly. There's no point lying about it or trying to deny it. I've never done that. It's all part of life's rich tapestry, isn't it? I understand you've got to ask. And I'm feeling better." According to Lemmy, people are telling him to slow down — that living life at breakneck speed is beginning to take its toll. "It was the same when people were telling me to stop smoking," Lemmy said. "'You've got to stop smoking, Lem,' they kept saying." "Fuck you. I don't like people telling me what to do, even if they might be right." Lemmy did, however, stop smoking cigarettes a year ago. "I was having breakfast one morning, coughing and hacking my way through a cigarette and I stopped and thought: 'What am I doing here?'" he explained. Although it's been reported that Lemmy used to drink a bottle of Jack Daniel's a day, he claims that those days are behind him. "I stopped drinking Jack Daniel's and Coke because the sugar in the Coke wasn't good for my diabetes," he said. "I don't drink much [anymore]." Lemmy takes two pills every day for his diabetes, which has affected the circulation in his legs. As a result, his legs stiffen and ache if he walks too far and his back hurts if he stands for too long. "But I can still stand at that mic every night and play my songs," he said. "I wouldn't know about the defibrillator if it wasn't for that fucking lump in my chest," he said. "I'm getting better. By the time this article is out, and the tour comes around, I'll be all right. I'll be ready." When told that some people have suggested that MOTÖRHEAD's upcoming album,"Aftershock", might be the band's last, Lemmy replied: "Really? Who said that? I've never said that. Phil [Campbell, MOTÖRHEAD guitarist] has never said it. Mikkey [Dee,MOTÖRHEAD drummer] has never said it. We plan to go on. Maybe, if we can't tour any more, we'll just make albums. We'll be like THE BEATLES after 1966." Lemmy, who turns 68 years old in December, told Classic Rock he didn't expect to still be here at 30, "I don't do regrets," he said. "Regrets are pointless. It's too late for regrets. You've already done it, haven't you? You've lived your life. No point wishing you could change it. "There are a couple of things I might have done differently, but nothing major; nothing that would have made that much of a difference. "I'm pretty happy with the way things have turned out. I like to think I've brought a lot of joy to a lor of people all over the world. I'm true to myself and I'm straight with people." Asked if his illness this year has made him more aware of his own mortality, Lemmy said: "Death is an inevitability, isn't it? You become more aware of that when you get to my age. I don't worry about it. I'm ready for it. When I go, I want to go doing what I do best. If I died tomorrow, I couldn't complain. It's been good." The November 2013 issue of Classic Rock magazine featuring the MOTÖRHEAD cover story can be ordered at this location.

BEHEMOTH: ‘Blow Your Trumpet’ Performance Footage From Japan’s LOUD PARK Festival

Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH played a brand new song called "Blow Your Trumpet, Gabriel" during their October 19 appearance at this year's edition of the Loud Park festival at Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, Japan. You can now watch fan-filmed video footage of the performance below. "Blow Your Trumpet, Gabriel", which was previously described by BEHEMOTH frontmanAdam "Nergal" Darski as "killer" and "a monster," will be included on the band's tenth full-length album, "The Satanist", due in early 2014 via Nuclear Blast in Europe and Metal Bladein North America. The CD was recorded at Hertz studio in Bialystok, Poland with the help of the Wieslawscy brothers and Daniel Bergstrand (MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES, SOILWORK,STRAPPING YOUNG LAD). Other songtitles set to appear on the effort include "Messe Noir"(French for "The Black Mass") and "Ora Pro Nobis, Lucifer" (Latin for "Pray For Us, Lucifer"). In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, Darski described BEHEMOTH's new songs as "very atmospheric" and "very emotional." "Think BURZUM meets NEW ORDER meets KILLING JOKE," he added. But at the same time, fans shouldn't expect the album to sound too far removed from BEHEMOTH's past efforts. "Take SLAYER, for example," Darski said. "Whatever genre they deal with, they still end up sounding like SLAYER. Even when they were flirting with nu-metal, it was a SLAYER record. Same with BEHEMOTH." According to Darski, at least some of the inspiration for the new BEHEMOTH album is coming from his five-month bout of leukemia he overcame in January 2011, after receiving a bone-marrow transplant. "When I was in the hospital, I was collecting experiences and emotions," he said. "I'm pretty sure that it's coming out now. There are moments I catch myself thinking about how my state was back then. It was me versus life, me versus death. It definitely changed my thoughts a lot. It's 100 percent being reflected in the record and songs I'm writing nowadays. I'm way more radical than I used to be."

METALLICA To Perform In Antarctica?

According to the Colombian web site of Coca-Cola Zero (the low-calorie variation of Coca-Cola), METALLICA will play a very special concert in Antarctica. The Coca-Cola-sponsored event will take place between December 2 and December 15 and will see the group performing on Earth's southernmost continent, about 98% of which is covered by ice that averages at least 1 mile (1.6 km) in thickness. METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich told a San Francisco radio station in an interview last month that the band has something coming up in December that will surprise fans. Asked what the group had in store for the immediate future, Ulrich explained, "There's a very interesting thing coming our way in December . . . There's another frontier heading in METALLICA's direction in December. Which, if anybody (at the band's management) even knew that I just said what I just said, they would hunt me down and silence me. But there is another frontier coming in December, which we're very excited about." The first rock concert ever performed in Antarctica took place on July 7, 2007 at British Antarctic Survey's (BAS) Rothera Research Station, one in a series of Live Earth concerts that took place on the same day in all seven continents. The science team's indie-rock house bandNUNATAK performed as the lone act. NUNATAK's concert, though performed in front of only 17 people, was broadcast all over the world. Coca-Cola became the first corporation to participate in an expedition to Antarctica. Each year an international group of Coca-Cola employees and bottlers join the expedition and embark on a journey of inspirational leadership and teamwork. Over the years the Coca-Cola employees have supported the design and building of the worl's first education station in Antarctica, The E-Base.

EVILE Launches Lead-Guitarist Search

British thrashers EVILE are now accepting applications for their vacant lead guitarist position. If interested, please send any links, videos, photos and biogs as well as a brief statement about yourself to: evileguitarist@gmail.com. On August 30, guitarist Ol Drake announced his departure from EVILE. he explained in a statement: "Over the past year, I've, unfortunately, found myself becoming more and more detached from the touring/band lifestyle. "In my opinion, the music business for a band of our genre and 'level' determines a very unrealistic way of life to me, and I personally find it difficult to make a living and have a 'normal' life. "I've reached a point where I want a family/kids, a house, a steady and definite income and everything in between, and in regard to my personal preferences, a touring band's income and uncertainties, in the state that I feel they would continue to be in, has become incompatible with how I feel and what I want/need." EVILE released its fourth album, "Skull", on May 27 in Europe on Earache Records and in North America via Century Media/Earache Records. The follow-up to 2011's "Five Serpent's Teeth" was once again recorded with producer Russ Russell (NAPALM DEATH, DIMMU BORGIR) at Parlour Studios in Kettering, England. The artwork for the album was painted by artist Eliran Kantor (TESTAMENT, SODOM, HATEBREED).v

Report: Fates Warning, Wardrum – Thessaloniki, Greece

Fates Warning, having been one of the best progressive metal bands that still reign on top of their existence since the mid 80s, have come back anno 2013 with a new release “Darkness In A Different Light” and just a few days after its release date, a fully packed 8ball Club in Thessaloniki await them for another music journey. Wardrum, were the lucky and as it seems the hardworking band, that had the opportunity to open this incredible night. Performing songs from their latest release “Desolation” as well as some older tunes and some new yet unreleased tracks, these local power/prog metal heroes lead by guitar virtuoso Kosta Vreto, really set the standards high for every band that wants to be considered as professional in any possible way. Warming the crowd with their uptempo music everything was ready for the coming of the true global prog metal GODS!!! Fates Warning, kicked off their appearence with “One Thousand Fires” from their latest release and everything from that moment and on, was a completely orgasmic set with songs from “Perfect symmetry” release and forth. An amazing night for all the possible reasons, the band performed absolutely incredible and by far highly professionally and their difficult non-consuming music which only they manage to play so tight, overcharged everyone in the venue emotionally and literaly! Having Drum legend Bobby Jarzombek, replacing the austere and highly important drumming duties, of absent drum GOD Mark Zonder, everyone’s attention was to the little tiny things as well as the overall presence of the drum-kit controller and believe me none left unimpressed!!! Bobby Jarzombek, is just amazing to the way he placed himself and his duties as a drummer to the music, the style and the performance needed and simultaneously “demanded” by the Fates Warning back and new song catalog! Absolutely the FITTEST for this job!!! Another new link that didn’t make his presence unattended was session guitarist Michael Adbow in the Frank Aresti guitar parts. Playing note by note everything where needed he also did an amazing job! Now for the final and most amazing thing that was reveale to us from note one to the last note of the show was one true mystery that revealed to everyone that had their eyes on stage!!! Ladies and gentleman Jim Matheos CAN smile – and did so many times during the show- Jim Matheos CAN headbang – and did some of it enough times during the show to make us notice and mention as well- and YES my friends this was an absolute delight to see and enjoy!!! Ray Alder being way to good once again left everyone stunned by his performance and communication with the crowd!!!And so did the backbone and coenerstone of their music Mr. Joey Vera – who despite a minor problem during encore-indulged us to his absolutely high standard performance alongside with a band that sounded so professional like no other I’ve seen the past few years!!! Fates Warning were and will always be a hell of a great performance band with music so unique that even a full 2 hour show will never be enough!!!
