TANKARD To Enter Studio In January

German alcoholic thrashers TANKARD are working on the follow-up to their acclaimed 2012 album "A Girl Called Cerveza". Entitled "R.I.B." (Rest In Beer), the CD will be released in the summer of 2014 via Nuclear Blast. Taking inspiration from the motto "never change a winning team," TANKARD will enter the studio in January 2014 to kick off the recording with producer Michael Mainx (BÖHSE ONKELZ, DER W, D-A-D, DISBELIEF), who helmed the band's last effort. TANKARD has also chosen to use Patrick Strogulski, who created the artwork for "A Girl Called Cerveza" and is also a student of Sebastian Krüger, the artist that was responsible for TANKARD's previous album artwork up to the 2012 release. States TANKARD vocalist Andreas "Gerre" Geremia: "After the highest chart position in the band's history with 'A Girl Called Cerveza', we are looking forward to work again with Michael Mainx — to record the next thrash hammer! Currently we're working hard to finish the last few songs for the album and I can promise that this time the techno influences are greatly scaled back… Joking aside, if it’s called TANKARD, you will always get TANKARD — otherwise let yourself be surprised!"

BLIND GUARDIAN Frontman Issues New Album Update

Vocalist Hansi Kürsch of German power metallers BLIND GUARDIAN has issued the following update: "Surprise, surprise, "I am sure no one expected me to be back with news about a band called BLIND GUARDIANso quickly. The reason is quite simple: I'm a workaholic and I have no idea what to do with all my remaining energy at the moment. Therefore I have decided to spend some time with thoughts about BLIND GUARDIAN's future plans. "Here is my remarkable output… "Like the majority of you, I was also very surprised when our show in Geiselwind was announced for May 2014. I suppose that I, or one of the other guys, have agreed to this show. I'll probably never figure out who did it, but that's not important now, the show itself is of importance. "To be honest, all of us cannot wait to get back on stage. Our stage abstinence seems much longer to us than 'just' 2 years. "Since we were asked to do a 'best-of' show we do not even have to rehearse, this is more or less the type of show we have done in the past anyway. I still hope we can put in some surprises since no one really knows what we consider our 'best-of' songs at the moment. It might differ from 'Memories Of A Time To Come' though. Right now I'm working on a possible set list and I'll cross my fingers that this will be approved when the others have a look at it. "By announcing this live appearance, we also secretly announced the intended termination of our album production for the end of May. We obviously have progressed quickly, in BLIND GUARDIAN terms, that is. Indeed, everything looks very promising with regards to our songwriting and our production. We have good reasons to believe that the album is going to be completely finished at that point. Let's hope I will not be proven to be the reincarnation of good old Münchhausen again. Anyway, even the worst-case scenario would have us not being too far away from completion at that point. "Since we have already completed several production steps on the new album, the picture gets clearer and clearer. Although not necessarily clear enough to decide whether I'll go lyrically for individual topics on each separate song or instead for a conceptual album. On one hand, the concept would have a strong fantasy link and on the other hand it would contain some typical Dystopian elements, because this is also what I musically find in most of the songs. They will all feature an almost magical grandeur but will present some very harsh disturbing elements as well. Therefore such a concept might be very suitable. I will have to sleep on it for a while until I'm able to make a decision. "Whenever we start songwriting, I try to create a plan in my mind detailing which qualities I would love to feature on the next BLIND GUARDIAN album and what general impression I would like to create. Very often at the end, things come out quite different and I'm surprised which qualities or preferences have shown up then. This time there seems to be a collective urge (without even having talked about it) among all

HELLOWEEN Guitarist Discusses Possibility Of Reunion Of Classic Lineup

David E. Gehlke of DeadRhetoric.com recently conducted an interview with guitarist Michael Weikath of German power metallers HELLOWEEN. A few excerpts from the chat follow below. DeadRhetoric.com: The thing a lot of people would like to see is a reunion with Michael[Kiske] and Kai [Hansen]. Is that a possibility? Weikath: We will do that too. We've given thought to that and we've heard his [Kiske's] words that he doesn't like when people dream about those things in public in interviews. I've only merely been answering the questions of those wondering about [it], so I haven't been dreaming. I don't need that reunion as much as he wants it, or doesn't want it. If he ever gives in to any of that, then you can swear we'd probably try something like that. Maybe make some good money and have some fun on occasions where people are enjoying what we're doing then, as that particular strange outfit for the actual existing HELLOWEEN, with a few ex-members intertwined and you wouldn't know. DeadRhetoric.com: It would probably be something where you just do shows, but not a new album. Weikath: I don't know…you never know. I heard someone say something like this, but I don't know where I heard it. It's clearly not a suggestion from the inside of the band or management, but I've heard people say that. DeadRhetoric.com: Your first time in North America. When was it? Weikath: '87. DeadRhetoric.com: Was that with GRIM REAPER and ARMORED SAINT, right? What do you remember? Weikath: Everything. DeadRhetoric.com: Was that your first full-blown tour with Kiske? Weikath: That was it. We started with OVERKILL and did the European tour, like London, Hammersmith, the U.K. tour, then the American leg of it. DeadRhetoric.com: Was Karl [Walterbach, ex-Noise Records head] with you on this tour? Weikath: I'm not sure which occasions he was there. He might have been in L.A. or Japan. He didn't have anything to do with the general touring or whatever. He was basically sitting at home collecting money, and when there was something interesting, he would show up. DeadRhetoric.com: I talked to him a few weeks ago. Weikath: Oh yeah? I loved how he always said "I'm the HELLOWEEN manager." [laughs] DeadRhetoric.com: He seems to be in a good spot right now, probably better than when you guys were working together. We talked about the whole Sanctuary debacle, which I'm sure you'd like to forget. [HELLOWEEN were sidelined for nearly two years in the early '90s due to a legal battle with Noise Records over Sanctuary Management doing a direct deal with Germany EMI, which was ruled as breach of their contract with Noise — Ed.] Weikath: If he would have been any cool, he would have said, "Okay, we'll do contract renegotiations." No freakin' problem, just act cool, Karl. I actually expected that out of him, but somehow he disappointed me for being so freakin' uncool. He got all the trouble he went through with the lawyers; he's got a pacemaker and stuff, I don't. He still, I think, manages to drive women who are actually interested in him away. Whatever, you just have to consider these things and see how happy is somebody. DeadRhetoric.com: You made it through that rough period, though, after "Pink Bubbles" and"Chameleon". Weikath: I would have liked 36 million marks, too. DeadRhetoric.com: Was that the settlement? Weikath: No, it wasn't the settlement — it's what he made on the band HELLOWEEN — he made 45 million marks. That's what our ideas and musical concepts were good for at that time. DeadRhetoric.com: He said one thing to me that stuck out: That you, Michael, and Kai each approached him about doing your own solo albums. Is that true? Weikath: There was simply no way to do that, because he wasn't interested in that. That could have prevented stuff, like for instance the "Chameleon" record. If everyone would have been able to try like a solo record, we wouldn't have needed to do something like the"Chameleon" album. Read the entire interview at DeadRhetoric.com.

PARADISE LOST: Lyric Video For New Song ‘Loneliness Remains’

The official lyric video for the new song "Loneliness Remains" from British gothic metal pioneers PARADISE LOST can be seen below. From the harrowing doom of their 1990 debut, "Lost Paradise", to 1991's genre-defining"Gothic", to 1995's break-out masterpiece "Draconian Times", to 1997's electronically tinged"One Second", to 2007's return to a heavier form "In Requiem", to last year's opus "Tragic Idol", PARADISE LOST have continued to evolve since their inception in 1988, inspiring countless artists throughout the years. To celebrate their influence on the scene, a special compilation will be released this fall to commemorate the band's 25th-anniversary landmark. Entitled "Tragic Illusion 25 (The Rarities)" , this album will be released on October 21 in Europe (digitally on October 29 in North America) and features artwork by Parisian designerValnoir, who has worked with artists such as ORPHANED LAND, MORBID ANGEL, WATAIN, and more than 150 others. All tracks found on the compilation are previously released rarities — except the new track "Loneliness Remains", and newly recorded "Gothic 2013" and "Our Saviour 2013". "Tragic Illusion 25 (The Rarities)" track listing: 01. Loneliness Remains 02. Never Take Me Alive (SPEAR OF DESTINY cover version) 03. Ending Through Changes 04. The Last Fallen Saviour 05. Last Regret (Lost in Prague Orchestra Mix) 06. Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us (Lost in Prague Orchestra Mix) 07. Cardinal Zero 08. Back On Disaster 09. Sons Of Perdition 10. Godless 11. Missing (EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL cover version) 12. Silent In Heart 13. Gothic 2013 14. Our Saviour 2013 PARADISE LOST's Aaron Aedy (guitar) comments: “The years surrounding our formation in the 20th century would have earmarked this as a B-sides collection. These were the songs that were left over from an album recording session you couldn't fit on to the sound quality restrictive, optimal length of both sides of a vinyl LP. You then usually used these for the flip side of your single as a nice extra for fans and also perhaps, as an incentive for the collectors to purchase to help any important charting or sales which could facilitate radio airplay, the best and most important way for your band to heard at that time. "Yes, my friends, it's hard to imagine now, there was a time before the Internet! A time when, even during the recording and writing of songs for our 'Lost Paradise' album, tape-trading demos and live tracks on the underground scene via mail (the real physical post kind!) were essential to a band's chance of being known by the people who would 'get it.' The magazinesMetal Hammer, Metal Forces and Kerrang! also had a couple of champions of the underground scene too, helping bands like ourselves be known on a wider scale, but rarer still indeed back then were the audio and visual outlets. In the U.K., we had the legendary 'Friday Rock Show With Tommy Vance', who introduced myself and many others to a lot of the bands they went on to love for life. Later, TV shows 'The Powerhour', 'Raw Power' and, of course, 'Headbangers Ball' on MTV. All, of course, pre-empted that Smörgåsbord of information, the Internet, for the discerning and hungry-for-more rock music fans to feast upon. "Twenty five years has seen a lot of change, not just musically for the band — take 'Our Saviour' and 'Faith Divides Us, Death Unites Us', for instance. The Internet has broadened the choice of music we can readily hear enormously, and more importantly, hear and see for ourselves to form our own opinion — not just what the larger commercial companies and stations want us to hear! "Added to our extra tracks from the past, we've included the recent re-recordings of 'Gothic'and 'Our Saviour'. This is something as a musician you find a strange experience. "We as a band have always been an album rather a single band, and re-recording old songs is most often best left alone — but when we rehearsed 'Our Saviour', a song long lost from our live sets for a good twenty years, we found it pretty exciting and fun! We decided before hitting the studio that we would not record it as a perfect 21st-century studio version, as I don't feel this song would benefit from it (in fact more so, lose its original charm), but we decided to just do it quick and almost demo speed. Whilst recording to capture the most raw element, we drafted in our old friend and producer Simon Efemey, who worked on our'Shades Of God', 'Icon' and 'Draconian Times' recordings to capture this, which whilst working to make it sound raw, made it fun too! Don't think of the re-recordings as replacements for our originals, but just as five blokes having fun and re-visiting the past in the studio. "I hope this collection helps some of the people who like our music have a more completed playlist of our most recent album sessions' songs. I personally am very pleased that 'The Last Fallen Saviour' is here, as I would love to have had that on the 'Tragic Idol' album. Also'Cardinal Zero', which only just didn't make the cut for 'Faith Divides Us…' due to it having a very different vibe to the other album tracks. Both nonetheless, I feel are very strong songs and show a slightly different side to those writing periods. "CD and downloads not having a 'flip side' or 'side B' had almost made that term redundant, but for a resurgent vinyl hardcore that has thankfully kept that one alive, I'm pleased to say. I often reminisce those teen years of travelling home excited on the bus with a new LP, reading all the lyrics, enjoying the large enough cover to make artwork intricately delightful and worthwhile. Great heart-warming memories for me, indeed. Yet the music new and old I'm discovering on the Internet these days in the 21st century is an absolute joy! I'm pleased to have had both experiences during my years with PARADISE LOST and the future holds who knows what. I for one am very excited though to see where we go next! "Here's wishing everyone all the best from PARADISE LOST and most importantly, thank you very much from us all for your amazing support, which humbles us greatly. Twenty five years and counting!" PARADISE LOST has also confirmed that its 25th-anniversary "Tragic Illusion" tour has been extended to now include a number of European dates. As with the U.K. shows, the band will be supported by both LACUNA COIL and KATATONIA (who will be playing the entire "Viva Emptiness" album at all shows).

PROTEST THE HERO: ‘A Life Embossed’ Lyric Video Released

Due to the overwhelming response to the lyric video for the track "Clarity" from the band's forthcoming album "Volition", Canada's PROTEST THE HERO have released a lyric video for one of the more socially conscious songs on the album, "A Life Embossed". PROTEST THE HERO lead singer Rody Walker, who wrote the lyrics for the track, says: "The boys in PROTEST THE HERO are long time dog lovers, it has come to our attention that there's injustice afoot! Our home of Ontario, Canada is the largest territory in all the world to pass legislation that discriminates against a specific breed of dog. This is a worldwide issue that the band is incredibly disturbed by. The song and video for 'A Life Embossed' attempts to draw much-needed attention to an issue that affects all dog lovers alike." After the departure of longtime drummer Moe Carlson, PROTEST THE HERO enlisted LAMB OF GOD's Chris Adler to sit behind the kit for the recording sessions of "Volition". Now with extensive touring on the horizon, PROTEST THE HERO has decided to fill the slot permanently with Mike Ieradi. PROTEST THE HERO's fourth studio CD, "Volition", will be released on October 29 (one day earlier internationally). The long-awaited follow-up to 2011's "Scurrilous" (Vagrant), "Volition" has been licensed to series of worldwide partners who will help distribute and market it to both traditional stores alongside digital service providers, thus making the new record available on a worldwide scale. PROTEST THE HERO and Razor & Tie will join forces for the United States, while the album will be released in Canada through Sony Music and in the rest of the word via Spinefarm. "Volition" track listing: 01. Clarity 02. Drum-Head Trial 03. Tilting Against Windmills 04. Without Prejudice 05. Yellow Teeth 06. Plato's Tripartite 07. A Life Embossed 08. Mist 09. Underbite 10. RUSH: ‘The Garden’ Performance Clip From ‘Clockwork Angels Tour’ DVD

Legendary rock trio RUSH have unveiled details for their first new recording since being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame earlier this year. "Rush: Clockwork Angels Tour" will be released via Anthem/Roadrunner Records on November 19. Anthem/Zoe Vision/Rounder will simultaneously release the companion DVD. A performance clip of the song "The Garden" — taken from "Rush: Clockwork Angels Tour"— can be seen below (courtesy of RollingStone.com). In capturing the tour's electrifying three-hour set, "Rush: Clockwork Angels Tour" pairsRUSH classics ("Tom Sawyer", "The Spirit Of Radio", "2112"), with a nod to the '80s RUSHera ("The Analog Kid", "Territories", "Subdivisions") alongside newly reworked arrangements specifically for the tour featuring the Clockwork Angels String Ensemble("Headlong Flight", "YYZ", "Red Sector A"). The string section marks the first time the trio has brought additional musicians on the road with them. JUSTIN BIEBER Sings METALLICA’s ‘Fade To Black’ (Video)

A backstage video of Justin Bieber performing an impromptu cover of METALLICA's "Fade To Black" can be seen below. The 15-second clip shows Bieber playing air guitar while he tries to recreate the guitar solo from the classic 1984 METALLICA track with his voice. Bieber is accompanied by his musical director Dan Kanter on guitar. According to NME.com, Bieber previously revealed that he is a big fan of METALLICA, naming"Fade To Black" and 1988's "One" as two of his favorite METALLICA cuts. "Those are my jams," he told GQ last year. METALLICA's manager Peter Mensch, who has certainly seen more than his share of childish behavior, told the U.K. tabloid The Sun earlier this year that he would "take Bieber to the woodshed and spank him." Mensch was asked to comment on Bieber's recent bizarre behavior, who has reportedly seen the 19-year-old pop singer being caught speeding around his neighborhood and getting into altercations with neighbors. The 60-year-old Mensch reportedly told The Sun that he has warned Bieber that his antics would ruin his career. "His manager Scooter Braun is scared shitless," said Mensch. "I don't know what Bieber's problem is. His career is over in three years anyway."
