ANDREAS KISSER Says CAVALERA Brothers ‘Turned Their Backs’ On SEPULTURA

Scott Morrow of MTV Iggy recently conducted an interview with guitarist Andreas Kisser of Brazilian/American metallers SEPULTURA. A few excerpts from the chat follow below. On SEPULTURA's early days: Kisser: "In Brazil, back in the '80s when we started, we didn't have the chance to see [many] bands live. It was impossible for bands to come down to Brazil — just big names like QUEEN orKISS. We used to pool together money from friends to buy one album and then make tapes for everybody. We formed this kind of underground scene that always looked for the releases and imported albums." On the split with the Cavalera brothers (guitarist/vocalist Max Cavalera and drummer Igor): Kisser: "For SEPULTURA fans, there are many SEPULTURAs in their head. It's not only because Max and Igor [left]. If you [compare] the albums that we did together, from'Schizophrenia' to 'Roots', they are totally different bands — but the same lineup. We all change; we all grow up. The choice to leave the band was their choice. We never fired any musician in the group. We only fired our manager after the 'Roots' tour, and Max chose to leave and stay with her and start a solo career. He didn't care about the name during those days. He didn't fight for the name. He just turned his back and said, 'Fuck you guys; I'm better off myself.' And Igor left 10 years later; he didn't care either to fight. It's like many fathers who have children and leave them. For [the Cavaleras], SEPULTURA is like an abandoned child. They really turned their back on us and left. But it feels great to be here and keep theSEPULTURA name strong, bringing new stuff to the albums. The SEPULTURA spirit never changed, and that's why we're still here as SEPULTURA." On the musical direction of SEPULTURA's new album, "The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart": Kisser: "[The idea] is just to be a better [band] all the time — try to top our best work. That's a very motivational and energetic feeling to have. [Producer Ross Robinson] really works the spirit of the music; he's not really too concerned about technical things but more about the performance and the concept of the songs, to really be in the DNA of everything that we do." On the new CD title: Kisser: "[The title] means that it's very important not to lose our heart, not to lose our human element. Because if you receive information through your head and act through your hands without your heart, you're nothing more than a robot with no questioning, no arguments, no protest. So I think that it's very important for us, especially today and for the next generation, not to lose our human factor and be completely robotized." Read more fromo MTV Iggy.

AEROSMITH’s STEVEN TYLER Records Song With South Korean Pop Star PSY

South Korean pop star Psy has revealed to Italy's L'Uomo Vogue that he has just finished recording a new song with AEROSMITH's Steven Tyler. Said Psy: "When I was in middle school, I literally cried when AEROSMITH were singing'Crazy' or 'Amazing' or whatever. They were my lifetime role models, and now I am collaborating with Steven Tyler. What the fuck, man? [laughs] I love my life." Psy was featured on the cover of L'Uomo Vogue, the first Korean artist ever to appear on the cover. The video for Psy's single "Gangnam Style" was the first clip in the history of YouTube to reach the unbelievable record of 1.7 billion views. The 35-year-old pop star moved to Los Angeles a few months ago, where he been working on new material.

METALLICA’s LARS ULRICH Wants To Tour With U2 And GREEN DAY

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich has revealed that there has been talk about his band touring with fellow rock giants U2 and GREEN DAY. In an interview with MTV News, Ulrich said: "U2 came to San Francisco two summers ago and we ended up having a lot to drink with them and GREEN DAY following a dinner. "I was told in the wee morning hours following this outing that members of U2, GREEN DAY andMETALLICA agreed to tour together. We haven't talked about it since, but speaking for myself, I'd be very up for that." In a 2010 interview with Australia's Faster Louder, Ulrich referred to himself as "the hugestU2 fan — I would borderline call myself a groupie, actually," he said. He added: "Playing withU2… I would fucking play on the parking lot. They're one of the only other bands that are still functioning after 30 years, just like we are, and I feel a lot of kinship in what they do and I just really admire and appreciate… They're really inspiring to me. I love their music, I love their way of reinventing themselves, and I love their way or thinking big and small. And it sort of works on all levels."

SCORPIONS To Release ‘MTV Unplugged’ In November

The greatest delight for the SCORPIONS fans, of which there are several million throughout the world, is the fact that there is no end in sight for the farewell world tour, even though this has been continuing for three years now. SCORPIONS still are Germany's internationally most popular rock band ever in the history of music, and of the 38 countries where farewell shows are planned, only 23 have been covered to date. On top of this, the band has found the time and energy to bring to life a very special event: their first "MTV Unplugged" show. On September 11 and September 12, 2013, Klaus Meine (vocals, guitars), Rudolf Schenker (guitars, vocals), Matthias Jabs (guitars), Pawel Maciwoda (bass) and James Kottak (drums) played two fantastic acoustic sets in the Lycabettus theatre of Athens. The open-air theatre, which was designed by the Greek architect Takis Zenetos in 1965 — and thus is just the same age as the story of theSCORPIONS — is situated on Mount Lycabettus, at 300m height, and offers an impressive view of the Greek metropolis. But the spectacular scenery is not the only reason that convinced the SCORPIONS to choose Athens for the first ever open-air show in the history of"MTV Unplugged". "When we were approached with the idea of playing an unplugged show, we immediately thought of Greece," Klaus Meine recalls. Matthias Jabs adds, "We have fabulous fans all over the world, but the Greeks are absolute die-hard fans." Concerning the choice of venue, the Lycabettus theatre, Meine explains, "We played here many years ago. It is a beautiful place. I can remember that even back then the fans climbed onto the surrounding rocks. Of course we played some of the greatest classics this time, but we also performed a few new songs as well as material that we had never played live up to then. Those are songs which are very popular with the fans but which somehow never made it onto the set lists." More than ten years ago, the SCORPIONS had already played a few acoustic sets, the result of which, "Acoustica", was released on CD and DVD in 2001, with great international success. However, the current program, including a total of two dozen songs, is virtually completely different. First of all, we have the band's brand new songs, whose stunning live debut filled the audience with instant enthusiasm. Alongside "Dancing With The Moonlight" and "Rock'n'Roll Band", both of which can be easily imagined in perfect rock versions, Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs presented one song each penned by every artist himself. The instrumental track "Delicate Dance" with Matthias Jabs as leader is based on guitar spheres which could easily settle in between the psychedelic glamour of PINK FLOYD and the boogie folk of LED ZEPPELIN. "Love Is The Answer" is a ballad for which Rudolf Schenker took over as lead vocalist — a feat that does not happen very often. And immediately after this, Klaus Meine surprises us with the world premiere of "Follow Your Heart", another power ballad destined for the charts. The show is opened by "Sting In The Tail", arranged in Cajun style. This song, taken from the eponymous album of 2010, bears witness to how deeply the SCORPIONS are rooted in rock'n'roll and blues, virtually the topsoil and nurture of hard rock. The same applies to the set of classics that follow, such as "Pictured Life", "Speedy's Coming" or the hymnal "Born To Touch Your Feelings", in which the Greek actress Dimitra Kokkori surprises with a truly heart-wrenching spoken-word part. It goes without saying that the beautiful lady is not the only guest starring at this exceptional event. On the nights featured here, the fiveSCORPIONS can count on the relentless support of the Swedish musicians and producersMikael Nord Andersson (guitars, mandolin, lap steel, vocals) and Martin Hansen (guitars, harmonica, vocals), who are also responsible for the arrangements made specifically for the"MTV Unplugged" show, and who also produced the latest SCORPIONS studio album. Further Swedish support comes in the shapes of Ola Hjelm (guitars, vocals) and Hans Gardemar (keyboards, accordion, vocals), as well as from percussionist PiTTi Hecht from Hannover, who is renowned as one of the best percussionists in Europe. To round off this magnificent cast performing at the Lycabettus theatre, there is a string ensemble consisting of eight Greek ladies, whom Klaus Meine introduces as "The Strings from Heaven." Indeed, a truly heavenly performance is offered by Klaus Meine and Hamburg-based Cäthe with their version of "In Trance". Cäthe, who released her second album, "Verschollenes Tier", this summer, shows all her charisma in this true seventies classic. "Rock You Like A Hurricane", one of the most popular rock songs by the SCORPIONS, and frenetically applauded by the audience, features REVOLVERHELD's Johannes Strate as guest vocalist battling with Klaus Meine, and the ultimate world hit "Wind Of Change" offers a unique aha-experience in its own right whenMorten Harket comes on stage for this encore. Throughout its two and a half hours, the show captivates with its numerous intimate moments and infectious adrenaline rushes (such as during a percussion solo). And there are even more nuggets from the sheer endless stock of hits — such as "Still Loving You" and "Big City Nights", "No One Like You" and "When The Smoke Is Going Down" — as well as a few welcome surprises to dazzle the connoisseur. "When You Came Into My Life", where Rudolf Schenker plays a sitar, is one of those tracks which the SCORPIONS had never before played live, as are "Where The River Flows" and "Passion Rules The Game". In view of this unplugged marathon with the stunning emotional momentum it conveys, it is difficult to pinpoint single highlights, but what can be stated with certainty is that the SCORPIONS evidently enjoyed this musical rollercoaster ride through their own history. It is equally obvious that both rock songs and power ballads display their class and style even when rendered as acoustic versions. The melodies maintain their timeless compositional appeal and the quality of the performance proves time and again that the SCORPIONS are blessed — this time especially by the Greek gods, it seems.

ORCHID: ‘The Mouths Of Madness’ Video Released

"The Mouths Of Madness", the video for the title track of the new album from San Francisco-based doom rockers ORCHID, can be seen below. The CD was released on April 26 via Nuclear Blast Records. Guitarist Mark Thomas Baker stated about the extensive "The Mouths Of Madness"production process: "Most of the tracks on 'The Mouths Of Madness' were cut in early June 2012. We were pretty fresh off of our European tour and full of confidence. The basics done at that time were the best recording experience that we've had so far. Everybody got along great and did great work. "We did this album with a completely different guitar sound than 'Capricorn'. I think it sounds much heavier in that regard. We take a lot of time to get things right. I hope people enjoy it and let it sink in. I think it's miles above our past efforts." Mastering engineer Richard Whittaker, who also took care of the latest BLACK SABBATH andTHIN LIZZY rereleases/analogue transfers, comments: "I've been a huge fan of ORCHID since I first heard their debut EP back in 2009, and they've certainly come a long way since then. So, as you can imagine, to be asked to work with ORCHID on their records was an honour and a pleasure. They're a great bunch of guys and a stellar band to be involved with. "'The Mouths Of Madness' is such a well-crafted and awe-inspiring album. Sonically, its 1974 meets 2013 which, for me, takes the SABBATH/PENTAGRAM vibe to whole new level." ORCHID was named "the best and most important doom band of the past five years" by Rock Hard Germany's editor-in-chief Götz Kühnemund. In addition, BEHEMOTH mainman Adam "Nergal" Darski stated: "BLACK SABBATH should do an album like 'The Mouths Of Madness'!" Since its inception in 2006, ORCHID — which features in its ranks well-known tattoo artistTheo Mindell on vocals — has achieved massive global awareness with their stunning releases"Through The Devil's Doorway" (EP, 2009) and "Capricorn" (full-length, 2011). On November 15, ORCHID will release "The Zodiac Sessions", which consists of "Through The Devil's Doorway" and "Capricorn".

For "The Zodiac Sessions", both releases have been completely remastered and put on one CD in a lavish digipak featuring an all new cover art, created by the band's gifted singer, Theo Mindell. On November 1, ORCHIDwill kick off a European headlining tour alongside labelmates BLUES PILLS and SCORPION CHILD. ORCHID is: Theo Mindell: Vocals

VARG VIKERNES To Be Tried For ‘Inciting Racial Hatred And Exalting War Crimes’

According to International Business Times, BURZUM mastermind Varg Vikernes (a.k.a. Count Grishnackh) will to go on trial in France on charges of inciting racial hatred and exalting war crimes on the Internet. Vikerenes, 40, who has been living in France for the past three years, and his wife were arrested in July as a preventive measure after Vikernes posted aggressive racist, xenophobic and anti-Semitic comments on Internet forums. The couple's home was searched and five guns were found, including four rifles legally purchased by Varg's wife as a member of a rifle club. "That was at the origin of the investigation. There were several suspicions that made the services fear he could possibly carry out a violent act," the Paris prosecutor's office said. Vikernes in August announced his plan to sue the French authorities for what he called his "brutal" arrest. Writing on his official blog, Vikernes said: "We want to sue the authorities for arresting us for no good reason whatsoever, doing so in the most brutal way possible and with children present, and also for without any reason taking away our right to own or even possess weapons. Marie [Varg's wife] has a crime record white as snow, so there is no reason for them to take away her right and freedom to own weapons. I have a record in Norway, from 1993 and 2003, but I have never done anything criminal in France, and I can own most weapons even in Norway if I want to, so they have no good reason to take away my right and freedom to own weapons either. Especially not when they have done so under such circumstances. "The only problem is that we can not afford to sue them, and we see no other solution to this than to ask for help from you. It pains me much to do so, and I have struggled a lot with myself to make me do this, but I think this is the right thing to do right now. They have done everything they could to make sure we could not afford to sue, so I think they really don't want us to. We ask for help to sue from you, from individuals probably not directly affected by this case, because we believe that we are fighting not only for our rights and freedom, but also for the rights and freedom of every other citizen in France, and perhaps also in other European countries, who also risk being subjected to this type of treatment in the future. We need to tell the authorities that we don't accept this and that what they do is illegal. We cannot allow them to abuse their power like that and get away with it. This time they did this to us, we don't know what else they might do to us in the future if we just let them get away with what they did this time, and the next time it can be your neighbour's turn. Or your friend's turn. Or someone in your family's turn. Or your turn." A lengthy video interview with Vikernes and his wife about their recent arrest can be seen below.

SLAYER’s TOM ARAYA: Having Drummer PAUL BOSTAPH Back In The Band ‘Is Awesome’

On October 9, Peter Atkinson of Metal-Rules.com conducted an interview with SLAYER bassist/vocalist Tom Araya. A few excerpts from the chat follow below. Metal-Rules.com: Are you interested in seeing people's reactions here to the new SLAYER, the new old SLAYER, or whatever people think it is? Tom: [laughs] I don't know. They've experienced SLAYER with Gary [Holt, guitar], and everybody's experienced SLAYER with Paul [Bostaph, drums] because Paul was part of the band for quite a few years, so it'll be time for everybody to get reacquainted with Paul and acclimated to this lineup. Gary has been playing with us for two years now, if you can believe that. People have seen the various pieces, just not all together. Paul's always been a friend. When he left, it was on his terms, and it was no bad feelings at all. Paul felt he needed to move on and it wasn't on bad terms and to have him back and playing in the band is awesome. It's like we're taking up where we left off with Paul and he's amazing. He's full of energy, he's excited to be back and he's excited to be part of SLAYER again. So it makes for very energetic shows and very exciting times. This is gonna be good. Like I said, everybody is going to be reacquainted with Paul and everybody knows Gary has been filling in, now it's just a whole different circumstance knowing that Jeff [Hanneman, guitar] has passed. I'm sure everyone will enjoy it. Paul is very energetic and excited, which makes everybody else excited. It'll be good and it will allow closure for everybody. Metal-Rules.com: How is Gary dealing with all this. He's in odd position — plus there's still EXODUS and I wonder if he's itching to get back to that, since it's his baby?
