On joining THE HAUNTED: Ola: "[Patrik] Jensen [guitar] gave me a call after he's been watching a lot of my videos, really. Started talking about gear and stuff and he eventually popped the question. I didn't know any one of the guys from before. I've been knowing this for almost six months and it's hard to keep it in, for sure, especially when you're so excited about something. NEWSTED: Audio Sample Of New Song ‘Above All’

A 30-second audio sample of the song "Above All" from NEWSTED — the new band led by former METALLICA, VOIVOD and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM bassist Jason Newsted — can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. The track comes off NEWSTED's full-length debut, "Heavy Metal Music", which will be released on August 6 in North America viaChophouse Records/Collective Sounds and August 5 in Europe throughSpinefarm Records. Jason told Billboard.com the 11-song album will be very similar to the band's debut EP, "Metal", which sold around 6,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 62 on The Billboard 200 chart. WITHIN TEMPTATION: Teaser For New Single, Video

Dutch female-fronted symphonic metallers WITHIN TEMPTATION have posted a 20-second teaser for their forthcoming single and video. Check it out below. WITHIN TEMPTATION's new album is expected in late 2013 via BMG Rights. The band's fifth studio CD, "The Unforgiving", sold around 12,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 50 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released on March 29, 2011 the effort was produced by Daniel Gibson and is based on a comic book story written by script writer Steven O'Connell (BloodRayne, Dark 48). The band asked comic artist Romano Molenaar (Witchblade, Darkness, X-Men) to draw the characters and scenery of "The Unforgiving", which was made available via Sony Music in Continental Europe and Roadrunner Recordsin the U.S., U.K. and Ireland, Japan and Australia.

SONATA ARCTICA To Enter Studio In September

According to Timo Isoaho of Finland's Soundi magazine, Finnish melodic metallers SONATA ARCTICA will enter the studio in late September to begin recording their new album for a tentative April 2014 release. VocalistTony Kakko has written around 50 songs for the follow-up to 2012's"Stones Grow Her Name", with plans to track and mix the effort over a three-month period. Regarding the musical direction of SONATA ARCTICA's next CD, Kakkotold Soundi that he has come up with some "diverse and versatile" material this time around, and that "at least the slower and heavier stuff will find its place on next record." The band is planning to make a slightly heavier and "more metal" album than "Stones Grow Her Name", which was certified gold in Finland for sales in excess of 10,000 copies. Kakkoalso revealed that he has composed a 10-minute song for the newSONATA ARCTICA LP, but he wasn't sure if the track was going to make its way onto the finished product. Released in Europe on May 18, 2012 and in North America on May 22, 2012 via Nuclear Blast Records, "Stones Grow Her Name" was recorded in several studios all over Finland, mixed at Sonic Pump Studios by Mikko Karmila and mastered at Chartmakers by Svante Forsbäck. The effort was released as a limited-edition digipak, standard jewel case, vinyl and download.

SLAYER: First Photo Of New Touring Lineup

The official Facebook page of SLAYER's current touring drummer, Paul Bostaph, has released the first photo of the lineup that has spent the past month on the road in Europe, featuring original members Kerry King(guitar) and Tom Araya (bass, vocals) alongside hired musicians Bostaphand Gary Holt (guitar). It was announced on May 30 by Araya and King that Bostaph would be behind the drum kit for the first leg of the band's 2013 international tour.EXODUS' Gary Holt is continuing to fill in for fallen guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who died on May 2 from alcohol-related cirrhosis of the liver. Bostaph was SLAYER's drummer from 1992 until 2001 and recorded four albums with the band — the gold-certified "Divine Intervention" (1994), the 1996 punk covers album "Undisputed Attitude", "Diabolus In Musica" (1998), "God Hates Us All" (2001) that received a Grammynomination for "Best Metal Performance", as well as the DVD "War At The Warfield" (2001), also certified gold. In addition to SLAYER, Bostaph has been a member of FORBIDDEN, EXODUS, SYSTEMATIC and TESTAMENT.

RUSH To Play Benefit Concert For Alberta Flood Relief

Due to recent flooding and water damage at the Scotiabank Saddledome, the RUSH concert originally scheduled for Wednesday, July 24 had to be canceled. RUSH has been moved by the situation in Alberta, Canada and has decided to perform its "Clockwork Angels" show at the closest location possible on the same date — Wednesday, July 24 in Red Deer, Alberta at the Enmax Centrium — and has all proceeds to go to Alberta Flood Relief. RUSH will donate its fee and pay for all its expenses. Their promoter partner, Live Nation, will also donate its time and fees towards this cause. The venue, Enmax Centrium, will donate goods and services to the event as well. It's an all-hands-on-deck situation to donate time in order to raise as much money possible for our Alberta friends and fellow Canadians in need.

PEARL JAM To Release ‘Lightning Bolt’ In October

PEARL JAM will release its new album, "Lightning Bolt", on October 15. The CD's first single "Mind Your Manners", is available for download onPearlJam.com. The band has been working intermittently on the follow-up to 2009's"Backspacer" for the past eighteen months with producer Brendan O'Brien. In May, guitarist Stone Gossard told Billboard.com the album was "sounding great. I think people are going to be excited about it."

AVENGED SEVENFOLD Cancels La Crosse Concert Due To ‘Production’ Issues

AVENGED SEVENFOLD has canceled its previously announced July 16 concert in La Crosse, Wisconsin. All tickets are refundable at point of purchase. Says AVENGED SEVENFOLD in a statement: "We regret to inform our fans in La Crosse that we have only now learned that the production requirements for our current tour unfortunately are not possible in the La Crosse Center. We will be back to the area soon to bring our fans the kind of show they have come to expect from us." AVENGED SEVENFOLD will release the title track of its new album, "Hail To The King", as the first official single from the record on Monday (July 15), according to HardDrive Radio. The album, AVENGED SEVENFOLD's sixth studio effort, will arrive in stores on August 27.

GOTTHARD: ‘Yippie Aye Yay’ Video Released

"Yippie Aye Yay", the new video from Swiss hard rockers GOTTHARD, can be seen below. The clip was produced by the band, directed byGOTTHARD frontman Nic Maeder, filmed by his father, Hugo Maeder, and edited by his brother, Sebastian Maeder. It was shot in the band's hometown of Lugano and it features the burlesque dancers Poison Ladiesas well as three members of Swiss bagpipe outfit WILD BOAR CLAN OF LOCH LUCERNE. "Firebirth" entered the chart Switzerland at position No. 1 — the 14th time that a GOTTHARD CD has topped the Swiss chart in the group's career so far. In addition, the album landed at No. 9 on the German Media Control chart. "Firebirth" was released in June 2012 via Nuclear Blast/Warner Music. The CD was produced at the band's own Yellow House Studios in Lugano, Switzerland, with guitarist/songwriter Leo Leoni and Paul Lani(who has previously worked with GOTTHARD on several of their earlier albums, including "G-Spot" and "Homerun") at the helm.

Rare Commercial For NIRVANA’s ‘In Utero’ Surfaces

According to The Pulse Of Radio, a rare commercial for NIRVANA's third and final studio album, 1993's "In Utero", has surfaced online ahead of a planned 20th-anniversary reissue of the disc. The clip, made to resemble an old-fashioned TV advertisement, features comedian Bobcat Goldthwait in drag as a "militant" birthing instructor who supervises asKurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl all launch plastic baby dolls from their nether regions. "In Utero" followed the massively successful 1991 release "Nevermind"and included the hit single "Heart Shaped Box". It was also the final full album recorded by the group before Cobain shot himself to death in April 1994. Although there is no official announcement yet, a 20th anniversary edition of "In Utero" is reportedly in the works for this September and will include archival recordings, demos, rarities, interviews and more. A similar package for "Nevermind" was issued in 2011.
