NEWSTED Pulls Out Of Australia’s SOUNDWAVE Festival?

Update: Australian touring mogul and Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah has posted a message on Twitter saying that he is "trying to find NEWSTED and figure out what is going on.' He added: "The band's equipment just arrived in Brisbane so not sure what's up." He also wrote: "I can't get hold of any of [Jason's] people. [I am] hoping that is because he is on the plane [on his way to Australia]!" NEWSTED — the new band featuring former METALLICA, VOIVOD and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM bassist Jason Newsted and STAIND guitarist Mike Mushok — has posted a message on Facebook earlier today indicating that it will no longer be coming to Australia for the Soundwave festival, which begins in just a few days' time. The very short and simple message, which has since been deleted, read as follows: "The NEWSTED Band will not be appearing or performing live in February or March 2014." NEWSTED's cancelation follows MEGADETH's withdrawal from Soundwave earlier this month after a disagreement between MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine and the Soundwave promoters over NEWSTED's appearance on MEGADETH's "off" dates during Soundwave. NEWSTED's debut album, "Heavy Metal Music", sold nearly 8,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 40 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was made available on August 6, 2013 in North America via Chophouse Records/Collective Sounds and August 5, 2013 in Europe through Spinefarm Records. NEWSTED took part in last year's edition of Gigantour, the critically acclaimed package festival founded in 2005 by MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. Also appearing on the bill were headliners MEGADETH, along with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, DEVICE, HELLYEAH and DEATH DIVISION. newstedsoundwavetweetfeb18

NEWSTED: ‘King Of The Underdogs’ Video Released

"King Of The Underdogs", the new video from NEWSTED — the new band featuring former METALLICA, VOIVOD and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM bassist Jason Newsted and STAIND guitarist Mike Mushok — can be seen below. The clip was filmed in September in Oakland, California with director Leon Melas, who previously helmed NEWSTED's video for the track "Soldierhead". In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, Newsted stated about the lyrical inspiration for "King Of The Underdogs": "'King Of The Underdogs' is kind of a personal thing almost. It's, like, the highest rated of the underrated. I think people are rooting for me to win as they do with underdogs." "King Of The Underdogs" is featured on NEWSTED's debut album, "Heavy Metal Music", which sold nearly 8,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 40 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was made available on August 6 in North America via Chophouse Records/Collective Sounds and August 5 in Europe through Spinefarm Records. Jason told Billboard.com the 11-song album was very similar to the band's debut EP, "Metal", which opened with around 6,200 units to debut at No. 62. "The EP was always intended to be the primer, a sampler of what was to come on the LP," he said. "It's all metal all the time. It's not all fast, but it is all heavy." Regarding how the material for NEWSTED's debut album came together, Jason told Loudwire: "It started out as my seeds for the first eleven songs that I made on my GarageBand thing. I wrote all the tracks — guitars, bass, drums, everything and gave them to Jessie [Farnsworth, guitar] and Jesus [Mendez Jr., drums] and had them go learn it, put their artistry on it and so it was collaborative in that way for the first batch. Like the four songs on the EP came from that initial eleven, so that's how those songs went. Each day as we get deeper into the songs, the collaboration gets deeper as well. I have come a long way from my tunnel vision of 'Only my ideas are good enough' bullshit, and I'm a lot more open to everyone's ideas and the artistry of each person to make it what it is. And three heads is better than one and that kind of thing. So it has become more collaborative as we go. I've written ten more since that time in October last year and a few of them have made their way onto this LP now. Once again, they were all my seeds, but now that we have Mike Mushok in the band and I give the music to all three of those guys, now I have three great artists bringing back their responses and their counterpoint playing to my ideas, so it's becoming more and more collaborative every day and on this LP there will be shared writing credits on at least half of the songs with the writing credits now." JASON NEWSTED Says His ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA Bandmates Didn’t Show Respect For His Opinion

Former METALLICA bassist and current NEWSTED frontman Jason Newsted spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA, the reality television-formed supergroup he launched seven years ago with former GUNS N' ROSES and ROCK STAR SUPERNOVAguitarist Gilby Clarke, Tommy Lee (MÖTLEY CRÜE) and Canadian vocalist Lukas Rossi. "It was a great experience, I made good money and I think I played some good five-string bass on the recording, so those three things were successful for me," he said. "The whole Hollywood vibe is really, really the opposite of what I am: pretty much the direct opposite. I'm in first, last one out and play like I'll never play again and work as hard as possible all the time. "When I came into SUPERNOVA, I had all my shit together and sat down with these guys and said, 'This is what we need to do if we want to get this record done.' And they went, 'Who made you boss?' So I was like, okay, fine: let's see how this goes…" Newsted continued: "We ended up rehearsing about seven hours total. Total. Ever. "I tried to be a leader — none of those guys have been in as big or as successful bands as I've been in. I wasn't trying to be arrogant, but that's the deal and they should have shown some respect for my opinion and my interest in the leadership role. They had their irons in many other fires at the time and I didn't. I moved out to Los Angeles to focus on that show and they spent more time walking around than anything else. Fortunately for me, at that time I discovered my painting. So if they hadn't been jacking off, it would have given me a chance to paint. So everything for a reason. The record got done, I put a big check in the bank, and now I'm selling my paintings. I make some wicked lemonade if you give me lemons, you know?"
