Convixion, Mentally Defiled, Endless Recovery, Nightbreed // Kytttaro Club, Athens, Greece // 19.04.2015

A Sunday night filled with heavy/thrash metal once more: Saboter, Nightbreed, Endless Recovery, Mentally Defiled and Convixion live at Kyttaro Club. But let’s take things from the start. Saboter were the first ones to perform, in a style which combined 90s era Judas Priest, Metallica/Iced Earth with the screams of Warrel Dane, during his Sanctuary days. They played their whole self-titled 6-track EP with songs like “Eye Of Terror” and “Redemption” to be the highlights of their show. A round of applause for a band that will soon be appreciated, especially on a full-length album. Let’s also point out that 3 out of 4 members of the band are also playing in underground Thrash commandos Overkast, so keep a close eye on them. I sure will.

Next to come were speed/thrashers NIGHTBREED. Their style combined Destruction, Kreator, Exodus and some Cthulhu-influenced lyrical content (especially on the “From Yuggoth” demo of 2012 with Dinos from Released Anger on vocals). They played material from the self-titled debut with Nir Beer (Speedrush, Noise Disorder) behind the mic (“Nightbreed”, “Pandemic”, “Holocaust”, “Epilepsy”, “Satanized”) the “From Yuggoth” demo (“Fear No Evil”, “Hell Commander”) and a cover of “Total Desaster” (Destruction). The crowd was more warmed up and it helped through the whole performance of the band. Great stuff and we hope for more to come!

What followed were the ever-rising resistant bangers ENDLESS RECOVERY, the only band along with The Crucifier (who recently announced a record in autumn via Violent Solution records) that could capture the Razor “I’ll kick your ass with iron fists and piss on your wounds” attitude and combine it with the German Thrash metal tradition. An important addition to their line up: Apostolos Papadimitriou on guitars, from the up-and-coming Deathrashers Rapture. They played material off “Thrash Rider” (“Corrupted Media Propaganda”, “Visions Of The Youth”, “Thrash Rider”, “Urban Crime”) the “Resistant Bangers” EP (“Predefined Life”, “Resistant Bangers”) the new track “Revel In Demise” and a crushing cover of “Metal Command” (Exodus) with the guys from Saboter, Nightbreed, Mentally Defiled and Convixion to end the show in stage dives, moshing and overall madness!

Time for the big guns, MENTALLY DEFILED are there to crush everyone’s necks left unbroken, with stuff off “Aptitude For Elimination” (“Aptitude For Elimination”, “Fashion Victim”, “Thrash TIll Afterlife”, “Soldier Of The Underground”) “The Thrash Brigade” (“Necrohooligan”, “Mosh Pit Maniac”, “The Thrash Brigade”, “Leatherface (Watch Me Die)”) and a sick cover of Demolition Hammers’ “44 Caliber Brain Surgery”!! Great mosh and stage dives on this band as well, things got wilder as we reached the end.

CONVIXIONwere the last ones to play, I’d call them the Greek Tankard: pretty similar both musically and lyrically. We all love to see them playing live and we love to hear Nick say “Heavy fuckin metal guys nothing else”. They destroyed what was left with songs off “Convixion” (“I Come Alive”, “Drink Metal”, “Made Of Steel”, “Heavy Metal Re Mounia” I can’t remember the rest of them), “Wings Of Vengeance” off their upcoming second album and ended their show with “VIOLENCE AND FORCE! TAKEEEEEEN BY VIOLENCE AND FORCE!” (Exciter). Things got out of control there, lots of beers lots of stage divers lots of fun and lots of crazy times in general.

That’s Convixion, that’s Heavy metal and in the words of Helloween “if you don’t feel it, you won’t understand”! Awesome show by awesome bands that could have had more people. But who cares? We had the time of our lives, so Metal above all
